Summerfest Scramble Tomorrow

Starts at 8am. Eighteen holes. Last I saw there were ten teams. Looks like good weather.

Jim and Wilma waited patiently for me to get myself down the dam before they teed off on #8 yesterday afternoon. When Jim saw me raise my camera, he implored me to wait a minute as he reached for his comb to straighten his locks. Wilma apparently enjoyed his antics and I went ahead and took the picture.

Longer grass around the greens

It dawned on me as I was looking at the Al Kavanaugh-Mike Anderson photo that one big change this year has been the longer grass around the greens. Makes for a lot of whiffy type shots - you know, ones that go about two, three, or four feet. Had one myself yesterday which led to a bogey at eight, and then a bogey-double bogey-bogey finish. The photo was taken shortly after Mike had whiffed his shot just off of #9 green. His disgust and frustration was apparent to those of us going down #1 fairway. Other than Junior's 37, the Senior League's low handicappers again failed to find sub 40 rounds. Frustrating indeed.

Eric did shorten the grass in that no longer out of bounds area adjacent to #7 tee box. Now that is something to be thankful for.

Senior League Highlights for Event 9

Diane Bird, Wilma Bateman and Charlie Sheetz found conditions to their liking as they had super rounds at net seven under. In Team scoring, Virgil Harper and Don Lannan combined for a nifty low net of 60 while Bob Norris and super sub Leroy Streepy followed with a 61. Low gross for the day was turned in by Junior Byron who shot a 37; Mike Bird was second with a 37. Sharpshooters for the day were Leroy Streepy, Jim Bateman, Wilma Bateman and Ray Shaw. In Team standings, Richard Swayze and Mike Bird continue to hold onto first place with 80 points; Mike Anderson and Albert Kavanaugh climbed into second place with 69 points. Virgil Harper jumped into first place in the Individual standings with 302 points; Al Kavanaugh follows closely with 299 points and Richard Swayze is in third place at 298 points. Birdies for the day were claimed by Richard Swayze, Ray Shaw, Junior Byron, Jack Butcher, John Chapman, Leroy Streepy and Richard Barber. Junior Byron, Al Kavanaugh and Mike Bird each had five pars. Average gross score for the group was 47.94, best yet for the year. Dry and sunny conditions made for better play for many of the seniors.

Time for Thursday Seniors

Another good day for golf - are there bad days for golf? well, yes. But today is not one of them. Come on out, leave your troubles in that 'old kit bag' and cavort with your friends for a bit. Then go home and watch the Open.
