Bits and Pieces: Girls Basketball

The Barr-Reeve Vikings took charge early and finished strong as they won the sectional title with a 50-24 win over the game but overpowered North Daviess Cougars.  In this game, the Vikings used the three pointer to bury their opponents with Lindsey Graber and Cori Cummings tossing in the early ones to put the Cougars deep in the hole early in the first quarter.  Game try by the Cougars and even with a little fire late in the game but by then it was way too late.  A nod to the cheer sections:  After an early "this is boring" from the Viking kids and a "you can leave" reply by the Cougar kids, the Viking crowd, with the opening of the second half, decided to stay awake by going 'bananas' after each score by their team.  They also did something I've never seen at the end:  Came out of the stands to celebrate with their team by crawling on all fours across the floor.  What antics!

Next up for the Vikings:  Borden (16-6) at 12 noon next Saturday over in West Washington.  Tecumseh (10-11) and NE Dubois (18-4) play the earlier game with the winners taking on each other at 8pm for the championship.  Bracket here.
