Bits and Pieces

Winners:

-Giants in the Super Bowl, 21-17, over the Patriots in a game that wasn't over till Brady's hail mary hit the ground in the end zone - just out of the reach of one of his receivers.  Makes me wonder if defenses practice with thoughts on the tip - I saw blue shirts hanging around waiting and all the white shirts up in the air with the guy tipping the ball.  Great game.

-The Lion boys on Saturday night over the Southridge Raiders, 52-41.  Looked iffy for the Lions going into the locker room at half time down three and with Ackerman having three fouls.  Not to worry - big second half by the home team and Ackerman.

-Both the IU and the Notre Dame men on Saturday, the Hoosiers over Purdue, 78-61, and the unranked Irish over #23 Marquette, 76-59.

-Lady Irish over DePaul, 90-70.  Irish coach, Muffet McGraw, loved the offense but chided herself (for sending in the subs too early in the second half) and her team for the defense letdown which allowed the Blue Demons to score 70 points.

-Kyle Stanley, the guy who triple bogeyed the 72nd hole last week at Torrey Pines and lost to Brandt Snedecker in the playoff, came back with a sterling round of 65 on Sunday at the Phoenix Open to catch the stumbling leader, Spencer Levin, and win by one over Ben Crane.  How's that for a rebound in a hurry.  Not only good stuff, great stuff!

-Christel Boeljon won the Australian Ladies Masters, beating US Open winner, So Yeon Ryu, by a stroke when she birdied the final hole.  Ryu had a five stroke lead over the winner at one time during the final round.  More ladies' golf this week at the Australian Open.

What a great weekend!

In a little bit, heading over to the golf course for some more 'winter' golf.  With the Boys.  Did play nine holes yesterday afternoon - it was lovely.  Only Chris Jones was out there with me.  Guess everybody else was home getting ready to party...
