Monday Golfers
Butcher, Lents, Hudson and Strange (and me) played eighteen during the middle part of this day. The cool and the wet of the early morning dissipated fairly quickly and the day turned out to be just about ideal for walking around the golf course. The grounds were a little wet from the weekend rains, but not too wet to allow carts off of the paths and onto the fairways. In the above photo, the four are watching Jack Lents' approach shot at #6 green.
Course Opening, Tiger and Michelle
Frosty morning here in Loogootee. Course should be frost free by 10 this morning, if not a bit sooner. Should be a lovely day for golf after our not so nice weekend - the rainy, cool conditions sure made it easy to sit around and watch Arnie's event which was, again, won by Tiger Woods. As he lined up for that 15' putt on the 72nd hole, I was thinking no way does he make a long putt on the last hole to win for the second year in a row. But then he does. Wowzer. The guy is absolutely incredible. Michelle Wie didn't fare so well down in Phoenix, making the cut but coming in tied for 57th some 22 shots behind the winner, Karrie Webb.

Rainy Saturday Golf Game
At the first tee box.
On six hoping a putt would fall. At least Mike was so hoping.
DJ harder joined up with Mike Seals, Mike Kidwell and Dave Wininger for a nine hole best ball game this morning. Dave and DJ jumped to a two hole lead through four, then saw it disappear on five and six. The two Mikes then parred #9 for the win. The four played in spite of a sky that wouldn't stop spitting and temperatures that never reached 50. Still, it's always good to get out on a Saturday morning and play a little golf, right, guys?

That would be Eric and it's on the morrow. In the above photo, you can see him getting some early training for his present post.

Guys from Shoals
Travis Brett wrapping up after nine holes with Nikki riding shotgun for him.
And DJ Harder with his Dad after his nine holes. Dad acted as caddy.
Both golfers are Shoals High School athletes, Travis in basketball during the mid to late '90's, and DJ, currently in his junior year and leading the golf team. Travis is a good candidate for Tuesday's Men's League though is begging off this year as he has committed to help with the Shaols basketball program this summer. I did try to get him to commit to ten wins for the boys next year and fifteen for the girls. Don't think that's unreasonable at all.
Joined up with Tracy Rayhill, Curt Johnson and Bric Parker on #6 this evening in a thrown together skins and flags game. Tracy had two skins through five holes and those were the only ones that went out. I got a couple of shots close enough on seven and nine to get the flags.
Which reminds me: Saturday golf game at 9am. Default game will be Skins and Flags if some other game is not decided on by those who come out for the game.
Turned out to be a lovely day for golf after a cool start. Maybe more good stuff tomorrow.
Tiger found his putting stroke today after an unusually poor showing two weeks ago at Doral. In the hunt at Arnie's tournament.

League Opening and Partners
Reminder: The Tuesday Men's League and the Thursday Senior League start play the week of April 6th - that's just up the road and around the corner, already. The first event for both leagues is a two person handicapped scramble where you can partner up with your League partner or someone else if you so choose or if your partner can't make it that first week.
I have heard of several people looking for partners; Tyler Walton, whose father won't be able to play this year because of recent surgery, is looking for a Tuesday Men's League partner. Leave a message here or at the clubhouse, or call Tyler, if you want to partner up with him.

First Time Golfer
Dan and Nancy Steiner were out tonight for a little golf in the wind and the sun. For Nancy, with a new knee, this is the very first time she has lifted a club to smack a little white orb. And she did just that.

Saturday Golfers
Nathan Storey and Robbie Sanders wrapped up Saturday's golfing, here putting on #4 green. Curt Johnson and Bryant Trambaugh went out with me to start the day (played Skins and Flags with Curt taking five skins, Bryant two skins, and me zero though I left them after five holes to go to Seymour - Eric called and reported he had a ticket to the Semi State for me). Diane was in the clubhouse for the day, at least most of it as I did finally return just before six. More golf today.

March winds...
...yesterday and temperatures some 15-20 degrees lower. Still, golfers were out plying their trade (passion). In the photo above, Walter Hendrickson tries to get a couple of balls to the hole at #8. His daughter Lauren, a Lion cheerleader, showed up in a sectional photo a few weeks back - here.

St. Patrick's Day golfers
Mike Breeden taking a divot on his shot from #9 tee box. Note his green shirt: avoiding pinches.
Herb Roach came out with two great granddaughters, Kendall and Sydney. Over the winter, he traded in 30 plus pounds of bulk for a couple of new knees.
In case you haven't noticed, the weather has been just about perfect for golfing this week. They are coming in from the hills and, yes, it's good to see them after a winter's hibernation.

Golfing Weather
Sunday's warm weather brought many out to the golf course at West Boggs.
Tony Stemen, on the tee at #7, came out after school today to brush up on his game.
Karry Stoll did likewise, here chipping onto #4 green where he two putted for I don't know what, hopefully a par.

Golfing today
New member Chuck Long lining up a putt on his 10th hole late this afternoon.
Michael O'Connor finishing up on #9 today.
Earlier in the day, Jack Butcher started off his 18 holes (with Ken Hudson, Rex Hudson and me) by dropping in one from 90+ yards out for an eagle on #1. None of us saw it disappear into the hole and Jack was on the other side of the green looking for his ball when Ken found it sitting pretty at the bottom of the cup. Jack's grandson, Dave, was also out playing nine holes with fellow Spring breakers, Jon Boyd and Noah Callahan.

For tomorrow, Saturday golf game at 9am for those interested (temperatures expected to be right at 40 at that time). I'll be going to the Regional down at the Lions Den; Diane will be in the clubhouse.

Cool weather
Looks like another cool day in our neck of the woods. And cloudy as well. If it changes and gets into the 40's with a bit of sun, we'll open.

Remember this former Lakeview golfer?
He used to spend many a weekend camped out at Boggs with his family and played a lot of Saturday golf. Jim Leonard, Roger Cole, sometimes Ron Hettle, and I, along with Richard Poe, the guy in the stiped shirt above, exchanged many a quarter back in the early and mid '90's. His niece was one of the Rivet girls playing in the state basketball final.

Midday and Evening Golfers
Among the retired golfeing on Monday: Tony Wease (just starting) and Charlie Sheetz (just finishing).
After 6pm saw the likes of Tarry Bratton, who was out with Karry Stoll - just right of the photo.
And Weston Muessig, who was out with Derek Gilbertson (also just right of the photo).

Saturday's Scramble - a draw
Tony Wease was out for nine this morning and filled me in on the scramble yesterday morning. He, Dave Wininger and Trenton Kidwell took on the rest of the Kidwells (Mike, Tyler and Trey) in a straight up scramble. Tony said it was pretty even up till the 8th when he made a putt to put his side up by one. But Trey stuck one close on 9 and the other guys negated the birdie on the previous hole with one of their own. They left it right there, dead even, right about where they started a couple of hours before.
Course Opening till the rains arrive
Heading out to open the course up right now - new time today - spring forward - be 8:30 when I get there.

Saturday Golf Game
Some of our regular Saturday gamesters have wondered about a golf game tomorrow. How about 9am and whoever shows up will decide on the format. I'll be in Indy with the girls' state finals so won't participate. Eric will be in the clubhouse at the time and will offer whatever assistance you all may need. Have fun - gonna be a beautiful day.
Golfers on a breezy day
Note the tee box sign to get a sense of the wind yesterday. Didn't seem to bother Bill, Gary and Chuck as they made the turn. Lots of other golfers took advantage of the near 70 temperature and dry conditions to come out and unwind a bit.
