Senior League Highlights for Event 16
Highlights for Event 16: Hole Prizes went to Mike Bird on #3, Ray Shaw on #7, Wilma Bateman on #8 and John Chapman on #9. John also shared low net score with Dave Strange, each shooting a 31. Low gross score was shot by Mike Bird with a 36 while Al Kavanaugh, owner of two birdies on the day, came in second with a 37. Low net team score of the day was a sterling 63 turned in by Dick Barber and John Chapman; only one other team, Swayze and Bird, managed net par or better. Other players with birds for the day included Dave Brown on #7, Jack Butcher on #8 and Mike Bird on #2. The match of the day between #1 and #2, that would be Richard Swayze and Mike Bird up against Jack Lents and Jim Bateman, ended in a 10-4 win for the leaders. That extended their lead in Team competition to eighteen points. Lents and Bateman as well as Mike Anderson and Al Kavanaugh are in second at 128 points. Wilma Bateman and Diane Bird are in fourth with 125 points. In Individual play, Mike Bird continues to lead the pack with 553 points; Al Kavanaugh is in second with 523 points. Don Lannan and Richard Swayze are in third and fourth with 479 points and 474 points respectively. Jack Lents, Charlie Sheetz, Virgil Harper, Vic Wallace, John Chapman and Jim Bateman round out the top ten. Average gross score for the day was 47.79, up almost a full stroke from the previous week. Seniors now enter three weeks of play where opponents are determined firstly by position in the standings and then by a win or a loss. Following these 'playoffs', the final two weeks of the Senior League are taken up by the Individual Flighted Tournament.
