News article for the week

Lakeview Golf Course News
Harlen "Jr" Byron decided not to play in the Lakeview Saturday Morning Scramble on May 2nd but did come out just after noon to play nine holes with his son Kevin. An unremarkable round changed to a memorable one when Junior hit a controlled nine iron at #7 which covered the ninety-three yards, taking two bounces along the way, then hitting the flagstick and dropping into the hole. Son Kevin reported to his temporarily silent dad that the ball indeed did go into the hole. Junior used a Nike Karma ball (the ball that brings "good karma to golfers") and hit it with his Dynacraft Gray Shadow nine iron. This is Junior's second ace and comes just over ten years since the first one. Congratulations on your second hole-in-one, Junior.

Denson, Kidwell, Souerdike and Trambaugh Win Scramble

In the Saturday Morning Scramble, the team of Doug Denson, Trenton Kidwell, Wayne Souerdike and Bryant Trambaugh started out with pars on holes one and two but then reeled off seven consecutive birdies to finish at seven under. That tied them with the team of Mark Potts, Cory Rayhill, Curt Johnson and Bric Parker. The Denson team won on the tie breaker, a card draw that made their birdie on nine the decisive factor. Doug Denson had his irons working almost to perfection by sticking his shots on the par threes to a total of less than six feet on the three of them. Three other teams participated in the scramble with two coming in at six under and one at four under. Full details can be seen at the Lakeview Golf Course website.

Eight players went on to play skins with Trenton Kidwell and Dave Wininger each claiming two. Those results can also be found at the website.

Thursday Senior League's third event was rained out and will be made up on August 20th.

Tuesday Men:

The Tuesday Men's League got to play on a Tuesday for the first time this season. Rain did fall all around the area but missed the golf course between the hours of 11am and 8pm. Leaders at the end of week three of the season include Terry Butcher and Jeff Doyle in the Team competition and Bric Parker in the Individual competition. Terry and Jeff won the season-opening team tournament with 126 points; Greg Potts and Tracy Rayhill were second at 120 points. Sharpshooters for event three were: Curt Johnson, Jack Craney and Bill Carrico for their long putts, and Tyler Walton, Skip Ackerman and Josh Butcher in the close to the pin category. Other notes: Kevin Byron topped his dad in gross score for the first time ever; bad night for Junior but the ace on Saturday certainly made up for part of the pain. Dan Steiner has improved one stroke each week over the last two; he hopes that continues to the end of the season. If that is the case, he will be shooting a birdie round; not impossible. Speaking of birdies: there were ten of them last Tuesday, five on hole number four. Doug Denson had two of the birdies, on #2 and #4. Par leaders for the event were Mike Kidwell and James Hager, each with seven.
