News Article for the Week

Lakeview Golf Course News for the week of May 18, 2009:

Tyler Kidwell, Junior Byron and Tracy Rayhill Triumph

Tyler Kidwell joined Tracy Rayhill and Junior Byron to fire a score of seven under par in the Saturday Morning Scramble at Lakeview. The trio birdied their first seven holes and finished with two pars to come in at 28 and snatch the victory from two teams that came in at 29. A third finished with a 31.

Senior League

The Seniors' Thursday morning fog of a week earlier was replaced by rain-soaked grounds that closed #8 fairway and made for a bit slower play. At the end of play, Vic Wallace and Mike McLaughlin were tied with Richard Swayze and Mike Bird at the top of the Team leader board, each winning 12.5 of 14 points against their opponents during play. Tony Wease and Charlie Sheetz had the low net team score of the day with a sterling 60. Rex Hudson continued his fine play of the young season and remained on top of the Individual leader board after a net round of 33. Carroll Rayhill, who shot the low net of the day at 27, climbed into second place. Mike Bird had the low gross of the day at 35; Junior Byron shot a 36. Sharp shooters of the day were Richard Barber and Junior Byron on the long putts at #6 and # 8 holes, and Carroll Rayhill and John Chapman on the close to the pins at #7 and #9. Of note: With #8 fairway filled with the night's rain, the teeing area was moved to the 75 yard line for the men and the fifty yard line for the women. From that shortened vantage point, two players got down in two (Mike Bird and Junior Byron) while eight others made it in three.

Tuesday Men's League

The Tuesday Men ended their day of play with two teams tied at the top. Weston Muessig and Derek Gilbertson along with Doug Denson and Buck Holland each had 221 points. Three teams came in with 64's, the low net of the day: Mike Breeden and Bryant Trambaugh, Jim Murphy and Rob Sterling, and Noah Callahan and Jeremy Wildman. In Individual competition, Tony Wease remains alone at the top with 522 points, with Buck Holland and Derek Gilbertson nipping at his heels in second and third place. Low net score among the individuals was turned in by Noah Callahan and Jim Murphy with each shooting 30's. Mark Potts had the low gross at 33 with Phil Eyler getting a 35. Sharpshooters for the event: in long putts, Derek Gilbertson and Ward Smith, who got two of them; Jim Murphy, Charlie Lyon and Kyle Jones on close to the pins. Of note: On the day, five different players carded two birdies: Jim Murphy, Josh Butcher, Steve Downey, Mark Potts, and Short Jeffers. Doug Denson got the lone eagle, a chip-in from some fifty yards at #6. Jim Murphy had himself quite a run, getting one close enough on #3 to capture the hole prize and a par and then finding birds at #4 and #5 in a round of 41 gross and a net 30.
