Interesting stuff:
-The average hole-in-one (from holeinone.com ): 44.7 year old male who's been playing golf for 17 years and sports a 13.7 handicap. The hole-in-one was on a 150.5 yard hole and made with a 7 iron and a Titleist ball.
-My first hole-in-one: I was 59.4 years old and had played golf for about ten years with a handicap around zero (at Lakeview). The ace was at #3 at Lakeview, just about 150 yards and made with a 6 iron using a Pinnacle golf ball.
More interesting stuff:
-Larry Hembree's Basketball Classics in this week's Loogootee Tribune is fun. Don't know if sharp shooting Dave Strange (he scored 28 points in the Loogootee-Southridge game in 1977, Larry's classic for the week) still plays basketball today; do know that he plays regular golf during the summer, being one of our Tuesday League players.
Something to do rather than keep the couch warm:
-Putting drill/practice in your living room or den: Take five balls and start at three feet from your cup (one of those green thingees with a tiny yellow plastic flag stick works for me). Once you sink all five in succession, move back to six feet and do the same. Then move back to nine feet and do the same again. Three feet should be relatively easy in quick order; six foot perfection might take a little longer. At nine feet, you may want to give yourself a little slack and settle for four out of five - you don't want to be spending all your evening hours trying to make fifteen putts. If you need more of a challenge, go to a longer distance and/or make it a fifteen putts in a row from the 3-6-9 foot distances - you miss one along the way, you start over. Don't forget to stretch out especially if you have a cranky back that keeps wanting to tighten up on you (like mine).
-Did go out and walk at the golf course yesterday. Most of the snow is gone. Now if we could get the temperatures to move up about ten degrees, maybe 15. The 10 day forecast does call for a 40 degree day - the tenth on the list. Won't be long now; get serious about stretching and don't do anything silly like fall down and break an arm or a leg.
-Almost time for breakfast here in the house on the hill just south of Lakeview Golf Course. Eating right today - oatmeal with berries, a banana and some nuts. Wonder how many folks had a Donut Barn goodie or two? Oh my, they do look good. How about I run up there and get a mixed bag of yum yums just for fun?
