Jeffers, Hardman, Strange and Lents Win K of C Scramble

On Sunday morning, the 26th, the Loogootee Knights of Columbus hosted an eighteen hole scramble at Lakeview with two teams posting scores of eleven under. Taking first place on a tiebreaker was the team of Short Jeffers, Dennis Hardman, Dave Strange and Danny Lents. Second place went to Tyler Kidwell, Joe Allen, Mark Trout and Mark Jones. Third place, also a tiebreaker with two teams coming in at ten under, was claimed by Mike Bird, Phil Smith, TJ Harder, Don Carrico and Cynthia Petty. Four skins went out, two being won by the first place Jeffers team, a third by the Bird team and a fourth by the Dave Wininger, Curt Johnson, Tony Wease and Shirley Jeffers team which also finished at ten under and got fourth place.

Community League

The Community League’s team tournament has reached the championship round with Clint Knepp and Rob Graber defeating Tyson Stoll and Adam Wagler, 3 and 2, and Junior Byron and Tyler Booker winning over Richard Swayze and Tom Taylor, 2 and 1. The two victors go head to head for the championship during the week of July 27th. In regular season play, The team of Dale Yoder and Richard Yoder had themselves a day to remember, each of them coming in with super rounds well under their handicaps. The two had the low net round of the week, a 55, with Richard getting the individual low net round with a 26, and Dale sharing (with Mark Potts and Ken Wagler) the low gross round of the week with a 37. Stoll and Wagler increased their lead in the team standings by thirteen points and now lead the second place team, Ackerman and Burch, by seventeen points. Adam Wagler remained firmly entrenched at the top of the individual standings and now leads second place Bill Harder by a whopping one hundred and forty points with three weeks to go in the season.


Thursday Senior League

Wayne Pearl birdied the ninth hole to secure the victory for himself and Junior Byron in the championship match of the July Senior Team Tournament at Lakeview last Thursday. Wayne's birdie gave his team a split in the hole points, 4.5 to 4.5, and contributed to the four point spread in the decisive total net score. Ray Shaw and Morris Cornelius, subbing for Dave Brown, carried the fight to the very last hole before succumbing to the net 70, even par round of the victors. In the points race competition that paralleled the match play, Bob Elliott and Joe Gray scored a sterling 79 points to nip last week’s leaders, Ken Hudson and Carroll Rayhill, 289 to 285. In regular season play, the Pearl/Byron victory increased their lead in the team competition over now second place team Tony Wease and Charlie Sheetz. Tony and Charlie had an 11.5 to 2.5 win over JD Faris and Clyde Wake. In Individual competition, Carroll Rayhill and Junior Byron leapfrogged Jack Lents to take over first and second place. Low scores on the day belonged to Al Kavanaugh and Jack Nickless with nets of 32, Mike Bird with a gross 36, and Vic Wallace and Mike McLaughlin with a team net score of 67. Hole prizes went to Mike McLaughlin and Joe Gray for long putts, and Mike Bird and Wayne Pearl for close to the pin shots. Over the next four weeks, league participants will play a thirty-six hole individual handicapped tournament along with their regular season competition.

Tuesday Men’s League

The Tuesday Men’s July Team Tournament is now down to four teams with Mike Kidwell and Joe Allen, Mark Sherer and Josh Huff, Dave Wininger and Dan Steiner, and Trenton Kidwell and Chris Bledsoe making it to the semi-finals. The four teams qualified by firing rounds ranging from 61 to 66 in last Tuesday’s league action. The Kidwell/Allen team takes on the Sherer/Huff team while Wininger /Steiner play Kidwell/Bledsoe in head to head action on Tuesday, July 28th. In regular season action, the Kidwell/Allen team reclaimed first place by shooting the low net round of the day, a nifty 61. Joe Allen’s 36, a net 29 and a tie for the low individual net score of the day with Terry Butcher, Jim Murphy and Terry Padgett, led the way. Jim Murphy’s net 29 came on a 38 gross, a new low for Jim. Also firing a new low round for himself, as well as claiming his first par round of his career, was Tracy Rayhill, who finished with a birdie at nine and a score of 34. Dave Wininger fired the low gross score with a super 32 that included four birdies. Sharpshooters claiming hole prizes were Ed Green, Keith Parsons and Tracy Rayhill on close to the pin shots; and Joe Allen, Terry Padgett and Larry Sutton with long putts.
