Gonna be a hot one! See if you can shoot some scores that match the weather - that would be hot rather than high. And the grounds are much drier now than they have been which will give you all some run once you hit the ball down the fairway. Caution: the rough is higher this week - the big mower's pulling power, the tractor, is down temporarily; parts are coming in today and it will back in operation tomorrow. So, you get more run if you hit it in the fairway but more trouble if you don't. Consider it a minimalist approach by Lakeview to duplicate the US Open experience. Let me see now, what else could we do...
Guess Doug Denson and Buck Holland did not like sitting on top of the standings so early in the season. There they were last week as play started and then they had themselves a terrible round. Now the top spot, the hot seat, belongs to Mike Kidwell and Joe Allen, who called in for a sub and lucked out with Cory Rayhill who was out on the course shooting the round of his life (so far), a nifty 34, some several strokes below his average. The leaders got to watch their backs as the field is full of contenders, each wanting a chance see the view from the top. Watch out for Curt Johnson and Bric Parker; Curt shot a 37 last week and then repeated the feat in a practice round, and Bric still loves his new clubs, and they are close eonough, along with five other teams, to vault to the top. There's Jack Divine and Short Jeffers, each playing well and Jack still glowing from his eagle on five last Tuesday. And the Byrons are hot as well. Going to be interesting today. My only prediction: things will change.
Guess retirement agrees with Tony Wease: doesn't have to go to the office or travel and gets to play as much golf as he wants. Have you noticed that he has taken up residence at the top of the individual standings? He must figure you all wouldn't mind if he stayed there a while. Should see several golfers get nearer to that zero handicap mark today: James Hager, Short Jeffers, Mark Potts (Mark shot a 32 in the Community League the other day with two silly bogeys and is looking to better his all time low of 31 out at Lakeview). Doug Denson, Phil Eyler, Mark Sherer, Dave Wininger, Josh Butcher and Weston Muessig are several others who should be knocking on that zero door before too long.
Tip for the day: stay cool, stay hydrated, have fun with your golf game.
