Bits and Pieces: The Return

Okay, the league regular season is over and my word bank is already starting to fill up again.  Best get back to using a few of them in this bits and pieces thingee that has been on hold now for several months.

Things that come to mind:

Football:

-Cougars won last night big up in Odon over Union, 54-8.  Diane was there.  Grandson Lucas did get in the game in the second half.  Hooray.

-Notre Dame: Said it last week before the Michigan game: they gotta win.  Guess we should all say it again but now with a little more emphasis.  Irish gotta win!  And it will be a quality win if it happens - the Michigan State Spartans have had their way with the Irish for way too long.  But then that could be said about a lot of teams, couldn't it?

Golf:

-The golf goddess giveth and she taketh away.  My Tuesday hole-in-one at #3 was followed by a six at the same hole on Thursday.  Guess I was fortunate to walk away with a share of the A Flight championship - the triple bogey dropped me into a tie with Junior Byron.  We both made routine pars at #4, the last of the tournament (and the season).

-Congrats to Jordan Divine on a great season what with a double championship.  He and Mitch Jeffers combined for the team title while he went solo for the individual championship.  Congrats also to James Hager who had a sterling four rounds in shooting a seven under par 133.  Good stuff.  Junior Byron also deserves a pat on the back: he nipped Jordan Divine by a single stroke for the B Flight title in the Tuesday League then shot a 34 on Thursday, making up two strokes, to tie me for the A Flight title on Thursday.

-On the larger stage of golf:  My two favorite pro golfers, Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie, have pretty much been non factors this year.  Tiger out nursing physical problems and Michelle way too erratic and inconsistent.  The Wie Lass is still up there among the best in the world while Tiger's rank is still dropping with his poor play over the past two years.  He does have a tournament coming up here in a bit.  Hope he does well.  Like the Irish, he needs a win.

Gotta go.  Scramble at Lakeview in less than an hour.  Don't forget the September Challenge coming up next week, the start of it.
