Thursday League: Jack Lents Wins Individual Title, Flight Champions Crowned

Jack Lents fired a net 37 in the Thursday League's final day of play, earned 21 points and won the individual championship with a total of 701 points.  For the season, he topped Dick Lemmon by a single point and Jack Butcher by nine points on a day when the three of them slugged it out in a foursome that included Frank Fee. 

In the flighted tournament:  Junior Byron had two birds, six pars and a single bogey in a rock steady round of 34 to finish with a 36 hole total of 147 and tie Mike Bird in the A Flight.  Bird, leading by two strokes at the beginning of the day and by three with two holes to play, had three birds, four pars, a bogey and a disastrous triple bogey at the players' eighth hole, #3, to open the door for Byron.  In B Flight, Frank Fee finished with a 41 for a total of 158 and a four stroke win over second place Jack Lents.  Susan Fee in C Flight won by two strokes when she parred her final hole (#6) while hard charging Tony Wease took a double bogey at the same hole.  Susan finished with a total of 167.  D Flight's Denny Wagoner posted a final day 43 and finished at 175 for the tournament to best Rex Hudson by eight strokes.  Morris Cornelius fired a final day 48 and finished at 188 to claim a ten stroke win over Dick Barber.

Low scores for the final day of regular season play were posted by Junior Byron with both a low net of 31 and a low gross of 34.  Hole prizes were claimed by Pam Byron at #7, by Phil Roberts at #8 and by Mike Bird at #9.  Average gross score for the day was 45.85, up more than a stroke from last week's 44.76.
