Tuesday Men - Come on Down!
The last day of the season is upon us and the races and the flighted tournaments are all up for grabs. The races first: The team competition has elevan of the thirty-four teams still with a mathematical chance of winning the gold ring, with six of those within thirty points of the top position. Terry Padgett and Gary Burris hold the top position by eight points over Mike Kidwell and Joe Allen. Guess you could call those two teams the 'more-than-likely's' to take it all but I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. In the individual competition, Derek Gilbertson slipped into first this past week, and leads Mike Breeden by six and Greg Potts by twenty-nine. But there again the race remains wide open with fourteen or fifteen players still having a shot at the top spot after today's play. But the top six have the advantage and I would expect one of those will be our champion at day's end. Of the six, three have low handicaps, three have medium handicaps - slight advantage to the guys with the medium handicaps though they have the bigger row to hoe as well. Guess I would put my money on any one of the six at the top - along with Derek and Mike and Greg, that would be Joe Allen, Jeremy Wildman and Larry Sutton. It's a race that is up for grabs. Complicating all of the above are the flighted tournaments where many of the same players remain in contention. The B+ flight and the B flight are the only two where the leaders have more than a one stroke lead: Chris Bledsoe is up two over Mike Arvin, Jeremy Wildman and Joe Potts in the B+ flight while Bryant Trambaugh is up three on Joe Allen and Warren Atkison in the B flight. Dog fights everywhere else and even in those two flights nothing is for certain till the lights are tuned off and the fat lady exits the stage. That would be some time tonight around 8:30. The course is in great shape though you won't get much of a roll with the rains we had over the last two days. Here's the strategy for the day (via Darren Clark): hit the fairways, then the greens and make a putt or two along the way. Simple game, this golf thingee. Have fun today, guys, and good luck to all the contenders.
