-Skylar Diggins named Big East Player of the Year (and was expected to do so with pre-season favorite status), and Devereux Peters repeated as the League's Defensive Player of the Year. The Irish women - well, I can't find the Big East Tournament schedule and bracket - dang. It did start yesterday with all teams in the conference getting a shot in the gold ring. From the South Bend Tribune: The Irish play their first game at 2pm tomorrow.
-Tiger Woods finished with two birds yesterday to make the cut at the Honda Classic. He's at -1, seven strokes behind tournament leaders Justin Rose and Tom Gillis. The Kid (Rory) is tied for third one back of the top spot. Go Tiger.
-And the big news: The Lion drubbing of #1 Barr-Reeve, 53-36, and the Shoals drubbing of North Daviess, 55-40, up in Odon last night. Holy Cow on the Shoals win - totally unexpected but they were definitely the better team out there - scrappy, great defense and super dedicated. The Cougars, on the other hand, did not appear as if they knew what they were doing. Both of the losing teams jumped to early leads and then went cold. Looked like to me that Mike Waggoner made an adjustment early that shut down the outside game of the Vikings. And then Wagler got himself in foul trouble and left the game early. For the Lions, Both Ackerman and Wittmer also got in foul trouble but late and each managed to play most of the fourth quarter. Super win for the Lions. Super win for the Jug Rox. Good job, guys. See you on the floor tonight with an all Martin County championship game. Now who would have thought that would happen...
-Got to start a fire in the wood stove - below 60 out here on the north end of the house on the hill. See some of you tonight up at the sectional in Odon! Oh, btw, my prediction is for the Lions to take down the Jug Rox and win the sectional title. Whoops! (Actually Whoops! for either one of the teams.)
