They beat up on Orleans last night, 58-45 after dispatching Evansville Day earlier in the day, 73-65. Giant day for Bryant Ackerman with 27 points in the first game and 32 in the second. Connor Whitman was also huge in both, with 24 (?) points early and 12 rebounds late. Each was on Channel 2 (WTWOTV) last night with the 11:20 sports report. The games were fun to watch as Loogootee raced to pretty good leads in each of them and then watched as their opponents scratched and clawed their way back in. Well, kinda. Day got as close as six with 45 seconds left - that's just two threes. Forget how close Orleans got - not as close but still near enough that nobody was uncrossing their fingers or going to sleep. Up next at the semi-state, Edinburgh with a gaudy 23 and 2 record and a Sagarin rating of 87. Loogootee, now 20 and 4, has a rating of 88 while the other two teams left in the 1A tournament, Rockville (21-5) and Fort Wayne Canterbury (19-6), are rated at 128 and 134 respectively.
