Bits and Pieces

-Lion V-ball girls lose in close match with the Barr-Reeve Vikings.  Heartbreaker as Hannah LaMar and friends stormed back to tie the match after losing the first two games but then lost the fifth game.  Plenty to cheer about on both sides.

-And if you are a Navy fan, you also have plenty to cheer about as they manhandled the 'Fighting' Irish of Notre Dame yesterday, 35-17.  The Irish coach, Kelly: "You get what you deserve."  Got to admit I was shocked when I heard the score - Diane and I were heading home after watching the Lions beat the VR Patriots (to advance to the championship) yesterday afternoon - turned on the radio and heard the score, 35-10 in the fourth quarter.  Thought that was about right - only one problem - the other team had the 35 points.  Oh well, as Diane reminded me, I'm an old Navy man so cheer them on.  Might as well - the Midshipmen beating the Irish is becoming old hat.  Three out of the last four years after having lost something like 47 in a row.

-SF Giants head to the World Series to face the Texas Rangers.  Whoop-de-doo.  The Rangers first series.  Go Rangers.

-Jimin Kang wins down in Malaysia with three birdies over her last four holes including one on the 18th hole.  Julie Inkster bogeyed the same hole after birdieing four out of the previous five to take the lead through 17 holes.  Good write-up here at lpga.com.  The old inconsistent Michelle Wie showed up on Sunday; she had three bogeys, two double bogeys and four birds over her 18 holes.  She finished in a very disappointing tie for 32nd place.

-Heading to the golf course for a Sunday morning walk.  Looks like another excellent October day for us and, with the Colts taking the weekend off, you might as well get your sticks out and go smack that little white ball around.  Of note:  One of these days we're going to get some rain.  Tonight?  Tomorrow?  Wouldn't count on it...
