Tuesday Men's League Results
Results are posted here. Congrats to Terry LaMar and Phil Eyler for their winning shots on holes #2 and #7 in the Special Competition.
Tuesday Men - Come on Down!
Another glorious summer day for golf - hot and sunny and dry. Remember to hydrate during the day - come to the golf course and all the heat prepared.
Special competitions today - $1 entry fee for each - winner takes the pot:
-Long and Accurate at #2 - closest to the pin with the first shot - ball does not have to be on the green. Tee blocks are moved way up - fly it or bump and run - yes - fairways are still dry and hard.
-Short and Accurate at #7 - closest to the pin with first shot - on the green (as usual).
-Other hole prizes as usual.
With two weeks to go in the season, the top spots are up for grabs. Would say that the top ten in each competition is pretty much in the running.
Coming up after the regular season concludes - the September Challenge. That three event (scramble, alternate shot, best ball), two person game is interleague this year and players can get their round in anytime during the week rather than just on the league day (though expect most will still use their day for the competition). League players and subs are eligible for the competition.
Mantra for today's golfing: Choose the right stick, make a good swing. Come on down and enjoy the game, guys.

Young Lady Golfer
Always good to see young lady golfers out at Lakeview. This one, Jody Seals, is waiting for her dad to finish up at six and seven before teeing off again at #8. Yes, night was falling rapidly. Must be something about the evening gloaming that Mike (Jody's dad) likes - he saw a lot of it at Lakeview this year. Know a couple of other golfers who appreciate that time of day as well - Chris Jones, Mike Arvin. Others as well. The summer's heat had us all looking for some kind of respite.

The Community League at Lakeview came to a rousing close this past week with Flight champions being crowned and the top spots in the regular season's team and individual competition being decided. In the Flighted Tournament, Mike Bird shot a closing 38 and ended with a score of 145 to best Ken Wagler by three strokes in the A Flight. In the B Flight, Mike Arvin (total 153) carded a 39 in the fourth week and nipped his playing partner, Scott Schutte, by a single stroke; Scott's fourth week score was a 38. In C Flight, Ken Frye's closing round 42 and total score of 166 gave him a three stroke victory over second place finisher, Gary LaMar. Perry Yoder, with a total of 187, also won by three in D Flight, his victory coming over Virgil Harper. In E Flight, Sharon Frye cruised to an 18 stroke victory over Shirley Jeffers, finishing with a score of 202 for the tournament.
In regular season action, changes at the top were the order of the day. Mike Arvin and Scott Schutte caught and passed Dale Yoder and Allen Yoder (who had held the top spot all season!) to win the team competition. Arvin and Schutte (218 total points) scored 26 points in the last week's play while the Yoders (213 total points) failed to garner a single point. The team of Gary and Terry LaMar finished third with 201 points. In the individual competition, Gary LaMar posted a 43 and got 31 points for his play over the final week of the season. That gave him just enough points to catch the season's leader, Allen Yoder, and tie him for the individual competition's championship with each having a total of 470 points. Tyson Stoll, who scored 45 points in last week's play, finished in third place a single point behind the champs. The week's low scores were turned in by Adam Wagler with a low net of 26, by Ken Wagler with a low gross of 35, and by the team of Adam Wagler and Tyson Stoll with a low net team score of 60. Average group score for the week was 44.34. Next up for the Community League participants: Lakeview's September Challenge, a three event, two person team game starting the week of September 12th and open to all league members.
Week 2 of the four week Individual Flighted Tournament is on the books with challengers making a move on the leaders. In A Flight, Junior Byron's four stroke lead after week one all but disappeared with Al Kavanaugh and Mike Bird carding 36's and drawing within one stroke of the top. In B Flight, Tony Wease followed his 39 of a week ago with a Flight best of 40 to expand his lead to three strokes over Terry LaMar. C Flight saw Ken Hudson come in with a 41 to close in on Jim Bateman; Jim shot a 43 and still retains the lead but by a single stroke. Pam Byron shot a second consecutive 50 and opened up a three stroke lead over Joe Gray in D Flight. In E Flight, Wilma Bateman shot a 53 and opened up an eleven stroke lead on Clyde Wake.
In the regular season individual competition, Jim Bateman, with 527 points total, stayed on top but saw both Al Kavanaugh (505 points) and Mike Bird (498 points) close to within striking distance with two weeks to go in the season. Low scores for the day were posted by Ken Hudson, Al Kavanaugh and Ray Shaw in the net score category with rounds of 32; and by Al Kavanaugh and Mike Bird with 36's for the low gross. Hole prizes were claimed by Wayne Pearl at #7, Dave Brown at #8, and Ken Hudson at #9. Average gross score for the group was 45.00, up slightly from last week's 44.61.
Dave Wininger used three consecutive birdies (holes 2, 3 and 4), a host of pars and a single bogey to post a 33 on the fourth day of the Flighted Tournament. That gave him a 36 hole total of one under par (139) and the A+ championship. Mike Kidwell, the leader by one at the start of the day's play, posted a 37 and finished second at two over par. In flights B through D, the leaders after three rounds prevailed: Terry Butcher in A Flight posted a 38 and a +8 for the tournament for the top spot, besting Terry Padgett's +11 in second place. In B Flight, Greg Potts left no doubt that he intended to stay at the top by firing an early even par round of 35; that gave him a total of +7 for the tournament and an eight stroke victory over Terry LaMar and Steven Downey. Larry Sutton carded a 39 that gave him a total of +15 and a four stroke victory over Mike Breeden in the C Flight. In D Flight, Brent Courter finished in grand style with a nifty 38 and a +21 that gave him a four stroke margin over second place finisher Tim Voegerl. In E Flight, Charlie Sheetz limped in with a 57 on the day and a total of +64 but was the only one standing at the end of play in his flight.
Low scores for the day were posted by Scott Arthur and Dennis Brosmer with net 26's; by Dave Wininger with a gross 33; and by the team of Tom Trambaugh and Dennis Brosmer with a team low net of 62. Hole prizes were taken by Doug Denson, Mike Breeden and Dave Wininger at the par 3's, and by George Templin, Rob Rollins and Gary LaMar with long putts. In team competition, the Courter/Sutton team, along with the Padgett/Padgett team made the biggest leaps on the day, scoring 54 and 44 points to close in on the Johnson/Parker team. Johnson and Parker still lead at 628 points, a 17 point margin over Rollins and Harmon, and Courter and Sutton. Bric Parker posted a nifty 40 for his day's work, scored 87 points and expanded his lead in the individual competition. Group average gross for the day was 41.16, down about a half a stroke from last week's 41.62. On Tuesday, August 31: special shot placement contests at both hole #2 and hole #7.

Thursday Match Players - Come on Down!
Week 2 of the Flighted Tournament with Byron, Brown, Bateman, Byron and Bateman leading in the various flights.
Of note:
-Looks like if your name started with a 'B', the golf goddess smiled down on you last week. Or at least some of the 'B's'. The B stuff carries over into the regular season competition as well, with four of the top five in the individual standings being of the B variety: Bateman, Brown, Barber and Bird. Al Kavanaugh sitting in fourth is the only 'outsider'.
-One of those B guys got his handicap down to a big zero last week. Haven't seen that for a while in the Thursday League. Congrats to Junior Byron who has been playing some pretty good golf these last few weeks - at least on Thursday morning.
-Mantra for the day, at least for me: Choose the right club, make a good swing. That would be for the golfing part of the day. Don't see any particular carryover to the other parts of the day's activities.
So, come on down, all you Thursday morning golfers. Bring a sweater, at least for the early part of the morning, along with your A game and, of course, a sense of humor.

Tuesday Men - Come on Down!
Here we go again. Final day of the Individual Flighted Tournament with the closest races in A+ and D Flights where Mike Kidwell and Brent Courter hold very tenuous leads of a single stroke over Dave Wininger and Tim Voegerl, and Mark Potts and Bric Parker only two back. The leaders in the other four flights, Terry Butcher in A Flight, Greg Potts in B Flight, Larry Sutton in C Flight and Mike Strawn in E Flight, enjoy a lager spread but still have to go out there and hit the ball. And, as each of us golfers knows, a lot can happen in the space of nine holes. Actually, a single hole...
Of note:
-One of the leaders in the league was out practicing last night (Curt Johnson); the other was no where to be seen though his daughter Brittany was out with a couple of other young ladies to get in some early evening practice.
-Zero handicappers this week: Mike Kidwell and Doug Denson. Mark Potts gets a stroke from the field this week - first time that has happened in about a gazillion years.
-Guys playing unexpectedly well and seeing the result with low handicaps of 2: Terry LaMar, Rob Rollins.
-The course is still dry even with the inch and a quarter of rain we got last Saturday morning. Expect roll in the fairways and drop and stop on the greens.
-Coming up next week: Two special contests: Closest to the pin shots on both #2 and #7. Extra $1 entry fee on each with the pot going to the winner.

Darrah Holder at Lakeview
The entire North Daviess Women's Golf Team, in the person of Darrah Holder, came to Lakeview on Sunday. She and her father played nine in the early evening hours. Note her back swing and the way she has her shoulders and hips about all the way coiled that they can be. Left arm straight. Eyes on the ball. Expect she can see the club head outside the corner of her left eye. Expect the ball was either on the green or pretty darn close.
Notes on Community League Play

Notes on Thursday Match Play League
The 36 hole Individual Flighted Tournament got underway with mixed results as far as the #1 seeds were concerned. In A Flight, #1 seed Junior Byron used a birdie at the last hole (#1) to finish with a 34 and a four stroke lead over his opponents. Mike Bird and Albert Kavanaugh helped him out by taking an extra two shots at the same last hole after plunking their approach shots into the water. In B Flight, #8 seed Dave Brown (38) and #6 seed Tony Wease (39) had sub 40 rounds while #1 Jack Lents stumbled to a 44. C Flight leader is Jim Bateman, the #4 seed, who shot a 40 and leads #3 seed Rex Hudson by two strokes. Wayne Pearl, the #1 seed in the flight, carded a disappointing 45. The #1 seed in D Flight, Pam Byron, holds a slim one stroke lead over Charlie Sheetz and Joe Gray and a two stroke lead over Dick Barber. In E Flight, Wilma Bateman, the #3 seed, holds a two stroke lead over Clyde Wake. The #1 seed, Carroll Rayhill, did not play.
In regular season action, the individual standings had a wholesale change at the top with Jim Bateman taking over first place with his league leading low net score of 29. Last week's leader, John Chapman, who shot a 47 gross and a net 41, failed to get any points on the week and tumbled to 6th place in the standings. Dave Brown and Al Kavanaugh moved up to second and third places, nine and thirty-three points from the top. Junior Byron's 34 was the low gross on the day. Hole prizes were claimed by Jim Bateman at #7, Mike Bird at #8 and Terry LaMar at #9. Average gross score for the group was 44.61, the same as the previous week.

Thursday Match Play Leaguers - Come on Down!
We start the Individual Flighted Tournament today - pairings here. The regular season's individual competition runs alongside the tournament. The team portion of the league finished last week with Jim and Wilma Bateman finishing at the top and Susan and Frank Fee coming in second. Guess the weather is going to be a little less severe, at least early in the day - sure is lovely right now - 70 degrees (how come there is no 'degree' thingee on the standard keyboard?) on top of our hill, 66 down at the weather station. The fairways are 'August' type, dry and hard in a lot of places - you should get quite a bit of roll. Greens are soft and inviting with all the watering they have received. So, come on down - bring your A game and plan on having a bit of fun out at Lakeview this morning.

Notes on Tuesday Men's League Play
The Individual Flighted Tournament is now three weeks down with one more to go with battles going on for the top spot in each of the five flights. In the A+ Flight, Mike Kidwell has put together three rounds of 35 to lead Dave Wininger by one stroke and Mark Potts by two and son Trenton by four. In the A Flight, Terry Butcher shot a a round of 35 this week, and leads Derek Gilbertson, who shot a 40, and Terry Padgett (37 this week), by three strokes. In B Flight, Greg Potts, who carded a 37 to go along with an earlier 38 and a second 37, has a comfortable four stroke lead over Terry Lamar. Larry Sutton, with rounds of 37, 40 and 39, is up three on his closest rival, Mike Breeden, in C Flight. In D Flight, Brent Courter takes a one stroke lead over Tim Voegerl into the final week; Bric Parker, two back, and Virgil Harper, three back, shot themselves into contention with rounds of 39 and 38 respectively. In E Flight, Mike Strawn is five strokes up on Charlie Sheetz.
Low scores for this week's play were posted by Trenton Kidwell with a gross of 34 that included an eagle at four and a birdie at five; Virgil Harper's gross 39 netted out at a nifty 28 for the low in that category; and Virgil and Terry LaMar's 62 was the low team score. Hole prizes were claimed by Brent Courter, Short Jeffers and Mike Kidwell on the par threes; and by Mark Jones, Allan Harmon and Chad Wade on the long putts. League leaders with three weeks to go in the season are Curt Johnson and Bric Parker in the team competition and Bric Parker in the individual competition. The top spot in each competition remains extremely volatile with multiple teams and players poised to take over with the slightest slip of the 'leaders-of-the-week'.

Tuesday Men - Come on Down!
Hey! The heat is off! We're experiencing a cool down with temperatures in the 60's this morning and highs in the 80's later today.
-Course is still green in places. The fairways should give all of us some roll - real August fairways for a change. Greens are still soft with all the watering.
-Week 3 of the Individual Flighted Tournament. Lots of competition in all but the E Flight where only two players remain standing and one of them a sub (which is a-ok). If you are planning on making a move, better start today.
-Mike Kidwell joins the ranks of the zero handicappers. He and Mark Potts the only two with such distinction today though Doug Denson, Weston Muessig and Dave Wininger are close with 1's.
-As always, bring your A game with you today. Things to do while on the course: choose the right club, make a good swing, watch that little white ball go its merry way, hopefully where you intended it to go more often then not.

Tyler Kidwell and Wayne Souerdike each made lengthy birdie putts at #8 to take their teams to five under in the Saturday Morning Scramble at Lakeview. Tyler and Larry Hembree went on to par #9, as did Wayne and Mike Bird. The Kidwell/Hembree team then used the tiebreaker, a card draw, to claim the first place prize. Two other teams participated with Dave Wininger and Trey Kidwell finishing at minus four, and Mike Kidwell, Joe Allen and Kevin Byron coming in at minus one.
Jim Bateman's fantastic finish on Thursday morning sealed the deal on the Team championship and vaulted him into second place in the Individual standings. John Chapman still leads but by just four points after giving away five strokes on the last two holes in his round of 42. Low scores for Thursday's play were turned in by Terry LaMar with a low net of 27 on an even par round of 35. Junior Byron had the low gross with a one under round of 34 that included three birdies. Vic Wallace and Joe Gray had the low team net of the day with a 63. Hole prizes were claimed by Junior Byron at #7 and by Jim Bateman at both #8 and #9. The League starts its final four weeks of the season with a multitude of players still in contention for the top spot and the Flighted Tournament running side by side with the regular season. Top seeds in the flights are: Junior Byron in A Flight; Jack Lents in B Flight; Wayne Pearl in C Flight; Pam Byron in D Flight; and Carroll Rayhill in E Flight.

Jim and Wilma Bateman shot even par on the final three holes to catch and beat Susan and Frank Fee in the final team event in the Thursday League at Lakeview last Thursday morning. Jim Bateman birdied both #8 and #9 to put the cap on a season of team play that saw the two couples in the league duke it out for the top spot for most of the season. The Batemans started the day two and a half points behind the Fees and were the sentimental favorites heading out. Susan and Frank, the Young Turks in the League, gave it a good run but in the end were done in by the brilliant play of the Batemans over the last three holes.
Bryant Trambaugh chipped in on #8 and #9 for birdies and a sub 40 round of 39. He joined several others in having multiple birdies on their scorecards. Dave Wininger and Rob Rollins each had three in rounds of 34 and 35. Players with two birds: Larry Sutton, Mike Kidwell, Chris Bledsoe, Mike Arvin (including a sand shot from the bunker at #7), and Skip Ackerman. Steven Downey had the only eagle of the day at #4. Low scores for the day: Dave Wininger and Travis Brett with 34's were the low gross; Travis Brett with a 25 for the low net; and Travis Brett and Chad Wade with a 58 for the low net team score. Hole prizes: Mike Bird, Travis Brett and Rob Rollins with close to the pin shots; and Steven Downey and Bric Parker (2) with long putts.
At the midway point in the Individual Flighted Tournament, the leaders are: Mike Kidwell with an even par 70 in the A+ Flight; Derek Gilbertson with a 73 in A Flight; Greg Potts with a 75 in B Flight; Larry Sutton with a 77 in C Flight; Tim Voegerl with an 81 in D Flight; and Mike Strawn with a 95 in E Flight. Average gross for the group was 40.64.
Clint Knepp finished up the baseball season this past week and had some time to think about his golf game. Apparently it did some good as Clint shot a very nifty 34 in his Community League round moving to the top of B Flight in the Flighted Tournament. The 34, attained with eight pars and a single birdie, was good for the low gross round of the week. Adam Wagler also had a pretty good outing, shooting an even par round of 35 that included birdies at the first two holes; the 35 gave Adam a net 26 and the low score in that category for the week. Clint and his playing partner, Rob Graber, had the low net team score, a 61. Leaders at the midway point in the other flights of the closing tournament for the league are Mike Bird with a 71 in A Flight, Gary LaMar with an 82 in C Flight, Paul Weisheit with a 92 in D Flight and Sharon Frye with a 103 in D Flight. In regular season competition, the Yoders, Allen and Dale, continue to play consistently and well to maintain their position at the top of the team standings. They have a 24 point lead over the LaMar brothers, Gary and Terry, with two weeks to go in the season. Allen Yoder also enjoys a 24 point lead in the individual competition, with Gary LaMar holding onto second place. Group average gross score for the week was a season low of 42.69.

Note: Expect Travis Brett would have preferred to have his outstanding day of golf last Sunday rather than yesterday; he and Chad Cundiff finished out of the money in the Denson-Wilcher extravaganza.
Note 2: Group average of just over 40 is pretty darn good. Can we get it in the 30's?

The Agony Of It All
A missed short putt in the early stages of the Denson-Wilcher Extravaganza out at Lakeview this past Sunday.
Tuesday Men - Come on Down!
First things first: If you haven't had yourself a glass of water yet today, go get it now and drink it. Repeat the process often over the next several hours. That way you will come to the golf course today hydrated. And that's pretty important with our hot and steamy weather. Play early - like now - if you can. Late is too late as we aren't cooling down till well after darkness falls, like after midnight. Of course, we could get a big storm to blow through and drop the temperature by ten or twenty degrees. Wouldn't count on it though.
-Week 2 of the Individual Flighted Tournament.
-Fairways are getting fast - expect some roll.
-Greens remain soft with all the watering that's been necessary.
-Only one zero handicapper this week (MP). Several golfers sitting at one.
As always, bring your A game and plan on having a bit of fun rolling the dimpled orb around and about.

Bits and Pieces
Just one comment before I head on over to the golf course:
My two favorite professional golfers, Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie, sure are having a terrible time of it this year. Tiger looks completely lost in competition and Michelle seems to always find a way to blow a hole or two or ten. From a fan viewpoint, it sucks. Expect they don't feel much better about it all.
Okay. Off to the golf course on another warm and sunny afternoon.

Mike Albertson and Mark Jones went head-to-head with Doug Denson and Buck Holland and came out the other side with a win and the championship of the July Match Play Tournament. The Denson/Holland team took their only lead at hole #5 but then saw Albertson and Jones take the next three holes. Mike Albertson's chip in at #8 for birdie proved decisive.
The August Individual Flighted Tournament got underway. Leaders after the first of four rounds are: Mark Potts in the A+ Flight with a 32; Derek Gilbertson, Junior Byron and Terry Padgett in A Flight with 37's; Terry LaMar in B Flight with a 36; Larry Sutton in C Flight with a 37; Tim Voegerl in D Flight with a 40; and Mike Strawn in E Flight with a 47.

Mark Potts and Warren Atkison got the only two eagles of the day, with Atkison's being a dramatic 176 yard shot at #8. Curt Johnson and Bric Parker (528 points) got back to the top of the team standings with Doug Denson and Buck Holland (519 points) in second place. Paul Hart at 1057 points has a comfortable lead of 71 points in the individual competition over second place Mark Jones. Bric Parker and Rob Rollins are tied for third at 972 points. Average gross score for the Tuesday Men was 41.57 on the day, up slightly from the 40.72 of a week ago.
The Community League's 36 hole Individual Flighted Tournament got underway this last week. Leaders after nine holes are Short Jeffers and Mike Bird, each shooting 36's, in A Flight; Mike Arvin at 37 in B Flight; Gary LaMar and Tyson Stoll share the lead in C Flight with 42's; Paul Weisheit in D Flight with a 45; and Sharon Frye in E Flight with a score of 51. In regular season action, low scores for the week were turned in by Mike Arvin with a low net of 30; a tie for low gross with Mike Bird and Short Jeffers each at 36; and also a tie for low net team score, Mike Arvin and Scott Schutte equaling Mike Seals and Paul Weisheit at 66. With three weeks to go in the Community League's season, Dale Yoder and Allen Yoder, at 185 points, have an 18 point lead in team competition. Gary LaMar and Terry LaMar sit in second place at 167 points with Short and Shirley Jeffers in third at 165 points. In individual competition, Allen Yoder, with a round of 43 gross, net 33 and a pick up of 46 points, continues to hold the top position with 413 points. Gary LaMar, in second place some 38 points back, also earned 46 points with a round of 42. Tyson Stoll, in third place, shot a gross 42, net 32 to collect 50 points for the week. Group average gross score for the week was 43.93, up a little over a stroke from the previous week's 42.87.
The top two teams in the Thursday League for the last several weeks will duke it out for the team championship next week after each of them scored 10-4 wins over their opponents in yesterday's play. Frank and Susan Fee polished off Al Kavanaugh and Mike Anderson while Jim and Wilma Bateman did the same against Ray Shaw and Dave Brown. The two leaders are separated by a mere two and a half points with the third place team of Wayne Pearl and Junior Byron, 9 to 5 winners over the fourth place team of Jack Lents and Mike Bird, too far back to get to the top in next week's final day of team competition. Low scores for the day belonged to Junior Byron who attained a rare double in getting both the low gross and the low net for individual play. He carded a 33 gross and a 30 net in a round that included two birdies and seven pars. Frank and Susan Fee shot the low net team score with a 67. Hole prizes were claimed by John Chapman at #7, Junior Byron at #8, and Susan Fee at #9. In individual competition, Jack Lents and Al Kavanaugh gained ground on the leaders, John Chapman and Mike Bird, with net rounds of 32 and 31. With five weeks to go and some 50+ points available each week, several players remain in contention for the top prize. Chapman with 452 points leads Bird by 18, with Lents in third at 429 points. Dave Brown (426 points) sits in fourth, with Jim Bateman another ten points back in fifth, and Kavanaugh in sixth, 49 points from the top. On the day, the group average gross score was 46.48, up more than a stroke over the previous week's 45.37.
In spite of a family emergency which sent one of the players home after five holes, Tony Wease and Charlie Sheetz (and a friendly 'ghost' substitute) survived a match that was tied after nine holes. Leroy Streepy's errant shots on the one extra hole (costing him three strokes) and a very nifty pitch to five feet and then a putt for bogey by Tony Wease (his second shot found the water) gave the hole, the match and the trophy for the Thursday July Match Play Tournament to the Wease/Sheetz team. Dick Lemmon and Leroy Streepy, playing for the Course team, put up a gallant fight but could not survive the overtime.

Notes on Thursday Match Play League

Wease and Sheetz (!) Win Thursday Match Play Tournament
In spite of a family emergency which sent one of the players home after five holes, Tony Wease and Charlie Sheetz (and a friendly 'ghost' substitute) survived a match that was tied after nine holes. Leroy Streepy's errant shots on the one extra hole (costing him three strokes) and a very nifty pitch to five feet and then a putt for bogey by Tony Wease (his second shot found the water) gave the hole, the match and the trophy for the Thursday July Match Play Tournament to the Wease/Sheetz team. Dick Lemmon and Leroy Streepy, playing for the Course team, put up a gallent fight but could not survive the overtime.
Lovely Rain
Well, the storm did drop down and land on top of us, or at least the tail end of it. Expect we will still go at nine on the golf thingee, a little after if necessary.
Thursday Match Players - Come on Down!
We're supposed to be in the middle of a angry looking storm right now and we do have thunder to the west but no rain and the temperatures have dropped all that much either. Guess we'll just have to play golf afterall.
-Dick Lemmon and Leroy Streepy take on Tony Wease and Charlie Sheetz in the chapionship round of the Match Play Tournament.
-Week 1 of a 2 week playoff in the team competition.
-After the team playoffs, the Individual Flighted Tournament kicks in for the final four weeks of the season.
But for now, and btw, we are getting a bit of a rainfall at the moment - can hear it even if I can't see it - come on out in a little over and hour and play a little golf. Expect the temperatures to be in the low 80's till we get done then up a bunch this afternoon and evening. Makes for a hot time.

Tuesday Men's League Results
Results are posted here. Congrats to Mike Albertson and Mark Jones for their big win in the Match Play Tournament. They outlasted Doug Denson and Buck Holland today, 1 and 0.
Tuesday Men - Come on Down!
Hot today - keep up with your hydration throughout the day - come to the golf course with your body full of water and take some out on the golf course with you. And pray for a bit of cloud cover. You could also play early, like now is beautiful with temps in the mid 70's and a very nice little breeze.
-Mark Jones and Mike Albertson take on Doug Denson and Buck Holland this afternoon at 4 for the Match Play Tournament championship.
-For those four as well as everybody else, the Individual Flighted Tournament, a 36 hole, four week competition, starts today. Flights here. Note that you may move to a higher flight but not the other way around. I see at least one body who should move up along with a couple of other possibles.
-Mike Seals joins the ranks of the zero handicappers though he joins only one other (Mark Potts) this week. More next week? Would be a good week (actually four) to get hot and go low and win your flight going away.
So, grab your clubs (and your water bottle), pick up your A game on the way to the course, and come on down and have a whale of a good time. Wouldn't hurt to see another hole-in-one either.

Sharon and Ken Frye went out and played like and with a couple of youngsters this last Friday evening, and then came in a few hours later as champions. The Loogootee couple bested Adam Wagler and Tyson Stoll in Lakeview's Community League July Match Play Tournament. Needing a win on the last hole to tie and extend the match, Wagler and Stoll did their part by getting pars. But the Fryes did one better, Ken rolling in a par putt just after Sharon had rolled in a birdie putt of her own. The close match was tied through four holes before the Fryes took the lead for good at #5. The next three holes were halved setting up the dramatic conclusion at the ninth hole.
In other Community League action: Jason Graber and Perry Yoder shot a super low 55 to get the team low net score for the week with Perry's 27 also capturing the low net score for individuals. Ken Wagler's 34 was the week's low gross score. Short and Shirley Jeffers slipped into first place in the team standings and now lead Allen Yoder and Dale Yoder by a single point. Gary LaMar and Terry LaMar are in third place fifteen points from the top. In the individual standings, Allen Yoder maintains a comfortable lead of 38 points over Gary LaMar, his nearest competitor. Virgil Harper, Shirley Jeffers and Tyson Stoll follow the two leaders in the standings. The league starts its final four weeks of the season with the Individual Flighted Tournament, a 36 hole event, getting underway this week.
In regular season action: Tom Trambaugh, an extended sub for the still recovering Ward Smith, found his first birdie at hole number five and went on to fire the day's low net, a 27, on the strength of a gross 47. Short Jeffers and Mike Seals fired 34's to tie for the day's low gross. Jeffers, two over through three, found three birdies and three pars on his final six holes to get his 34 while Mike Seals rolled in eight pars to go along with his single birdie at #4. Two of the Kidwell brothers, Tyler and Trenton, playing in separate groups, found consecutive birdies at holes four, five and six in even par rounds of 35. Four different teams shared the low team score of 62: Greg Potts and Tracy Rayhill, Virgil Harper and Terry LaMar, Allan Harmon and Rob Rollins, and Short Jeffers and Jack Divine. In the semi finals of the Match Play Tournament, Mike Albertson and Mark Jones fell behind for the first time on the eighth hole in a see-saw battle with Mark Sherer and Mike Bird. They tied it at the ninth when Jones rolled in a six foot par putt and Mark Sherer's four footer for the win lipped out. The extra hole, an ugly affair with both sides seeing errant shots galore, was finally settled with Jones sinking a bogey putt of five feet and Albertson's double bogey putt being conceded. The winners go on to face Doug Denson and Buck Holland who had a slightly easier time of it, closing out Tom McAtee and John Drake at the eighth hole. Their match was tied through five but then Denson and Holland won the next three holes to advance. The two winners face off for the championship next Tuesday. In regular season action: Tom Trambaugh, an extended sub for the still recovering Ward Smith, found his first birdie at hole number five and went on to fire the day's low net, a 27, on the strength of a gross 47. Scott Schutte Aces #3 at Lakeview
On July 22nd, 2010, Scott Schutte holed out from the tee box at #3 at Lakeview Golf Course, getting the first hole-in-one of his thirty plus golfing career. Scott used his Taylor Made Rescue Club from 145 yards out and saw his ball head directly at the pin and into the afternoon sun. As he approached the green, a Nike One Tour, he saw where it had hit in front of the pin and thought that it then bounded off the back of the green. He was delighted to find it nestled at the bottom of the cup. Congratulations, Scott.
