Dick Barber led all players in the Thursday League at Lakeview with a net score of seven under par 28 in yesterday's play. That gives him the top spot in the opening round of the Individual Handicapped Tournament. Jack Lents and Pam Byron each had rounds of minus six to tie for second. Dave Brown, JD Faris, Rex Hudson, Terry LaMar and Richard Lemmon are in a tie for fourth at minus five. Jack Butcher and Rex Hudson strengthened their hold on first place with an 11.5 to 2.5 win in their match against subs Dave Strange and Ben Course. Patty Bowling and Pam Byron stayed close with a 9-5 win over Mike McLaughlin and Leroy Allbright. Low scores for the day were posted by Frank Fee, Al Kavanaugh and Mike Bird for low gross with 37's, by the aforementioned Dick Barber for his net 28, and by Dave Brown and Dick Lemmon for the team low of 60. Hole prizes were claimed by Susan Fee and Morris Cornelius with close to the pin shots, and by Junior Byron with the long putt at #8. Average gross score for the day was 44.72, down by more than a stroke from last week's 46.
Of note: Five players stayed for the skins and flags game following league play. Mike McLaughlin, Phil Hardwick and Mike Bird each had two birds during the game. Not bad when you compare that with the total of nine birds claimed earlier in the day by the 29 players in league action. Reminiscent of all the eagles being picked up last Tuesday by the Tuesday Men: three by Mark Potts, one each by Tyler Walton and Dave Wininger. Nice to have the warmer and dryer weather, right?
