Dave Wininger and Wayne Souerdike fired a three under 32 to win the Saturday Morning Scramble at Lakeview this morning but not without having to withstand a late charge by Mike Bird and George Templin.  Wininger and Souerdike eagled #4 (Wininger's approach shot to fifteen feet and then Souerdike's putt) and birdied #6 to go along with seven routine pars in their round.  Bird and Templin, after shooting themselves in the foot with a first hole double bogey, clawed their way back into contention on the strength of Templin's golden putter as they posted a bird at #2, pars at holes three through five, and then ran off three consecutive birds to get within one of the leaders with one hole to go.  Alas, the magic ended with the ninth hole offering just routine pars for both the leaders and the contenders.  A third team, made up of Junior Byron, Lee Wininger and Kevin Byron, also played in the scramble and finished with a one under round of 34.
