Bric Parker survived a horrific afternoon of golf where he shot thirteen strokes over his handicap, earned zero points, and still remained on top of the individual standings at 1263 points, some 44 points ahead of second place Rob Rollins. With one week to go, the race has narrowed to four players: Bric, Rob, Paul Hart, who shot a net 31 and earned 102 points on the day, and Collin Padgett.
In team play, Parker and Curt Johnson, last week's leaders, tumbled to 3rd place behind Allan Harmon and Rob Rollins in first with 643 points, and George Templin and Don Nolan in second at 630 points. Two other teams, Brent Courter/Larry Sutton and Collin Padgett/Terry Padgett, are within striking distance of the top spot in the team standings.
Low scores for the day belong to Dennis Brosmer with a net 30, Short Jeffers with a gross 33, and the team of Tom Trambaugh and Dennis Brosmer with a net 62. The day's regular hole prizes were claimed by John Walker and Steve Downey with close-to-the-pin shots, and Trenton Kidwell, Mark Jones and Virgil Harper with long putts. Average gross score for the day was 42.57, up almost a stroke and a half from last week's 41.16.
Terry LaMar and Phil Eyler captured the special competition prizes on Tuesday. Terry's tee shot at #2 stopped about eight feet from the hole where he proceeded to run the putt in for an eagle. Phil's shot at #7 stopped three feet from the pin and he too went into red numbers (at least on this hole) by rolling the putt in. Next week the League's regular season concludes with another two special competition shots: a close-to-the-barrel contest and a long drive contest. The September Challenge, an interleague two person, three event game starts the week of September 12.
Of note: Both Short Jeffers and Trenton Kidwell started their rounds badly and then turned them around for sub par rounds of 33 and 34. Short doubled #1 but then found four birdies to go along with four pars over the next eight holes. Trenton was two over through three but found birdies at four and eight as well as an eagle at six on his way in.
