Final day of the regular season and the top spots in both competitions are very much in play. Advantage to the leaders - Rob Rollins and Allan Harmon in the team competition, and Bric Parker in the individual competition, but in both cases that advantage is slim. And they have to go out with the added pressure of trying to hold on to the top spot. Ah, what pressure, right, guys? Just go out and play your game and let it take you where it will.
Two more special competitions today:
-Long drive at #6 - has to be in the fairway - between the cart path on the left and the median on the right (and not in the water - I can see that happening with the ground being as hard as it is. Entry fee: $5. Winner take the pot. If you have decent length and good accuracy, suggest you go for it - last night I had one of those long boy pokes, a 300 yarder that put me up there by that 1st Bradford Pear tree - got some tees from the Byrons for my efforts and my accuracy.
-Closest to the barrel at the 90 yard line in #2 fairway. Again, in the fairway, please. Entry fee: $1; winner takes the pot. Here most everybody is going to have to decide whether to knock down their usual drive to go for the money. At the 90 yard line makes it a shot of about 160 yards. Your call.
Weather should not be a factor - hot and maybe a bit of a wind. Fairways are hard and offer plenty of roll, and the greens are soft.
Zero handicappers today: Trenton Kidwell and Dave Wininger.
Mantra for the day: Choose the right stick, make a good swing.
Goal for the day: Get all your putts to the hole - let the Arnie Palmer in you come to the fore.
Coming up next week: September Challenge.
