Bits and Pieces

-From the Sybase Match Play Tournament now going in Gladstone, NJ.  On match play golf:
“It’s match play, you never know what you’re going to get,” No. 15 seed Brittany Lincicome said. “If you’re not on the top of your game every day, you’re not going to keep going. Or, you could play crappy every day and keep going.”
I like that though being on top of your game is probably a huge plus.  Michelle Wie did win her match yesterday (over Beatriz Recari) and plays Anna Nordqvist today.

-After yesterday's league play, eleven players stuck around and played another round or two.  Vic Wallace and Phil Roberts (the one who played more than one addition round as Preston joined him for yet another nine holes) did the scramble portion of the May Challenge; the Boys (Butcher, Lemmon, Lents and Hudson) played  their usual game of 3-3-3; and Tony Wease, Phil Hardwick, Mike McLaughlin, John Holtz and myself played skins and flags.  Good stuff on a Thursday morning.

-Congrats to Junior Byron and Patty Bowling.  Junior shot his second straight 35 in Thursday League while Patty continues her stellar early season play.  Patty's beginning handicap in April was 20; she has reduced that to 13 going into next week's play.  Pretty impressive stuff.

-Tom Walker, my Tuesday Men's League partner, came out and subbed for Bob Elliott yesterday and shot a super 40.  I look for him to get into the 30's in short order.  Hope I can join him there - my game has taken a long and tortuous path in getting back to end of 2010 levels.  I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

-Saturday Morning Scramble tomorrow at 9am.

-Tip for the day:  Do like Ernie Banks suggested and play two today.  That would be two nine hole games for me.  Play the first one at 1 with Tom Walker - the scramble portion of our Tuesday League May Challenge.  Another nine later on as evening approaches.
