-Michelle Wie's exit from Sybase - photo and brief recap of her Saturday morning efforts (she described her play as horrible) here. The event was won by Suzann Petersen who topped Cristie Kerr in the final match with a 15 foot birdie putt at the 18th hole.
-David Toms has a roller coaster ride for a big win at the Colonial. Pretty impressive Sunday after he shot himself in the foot, over and over again, on Saturday, blowing a seven stroke lead and eventually winning by one stroke over Charlie Wi. Good stuff for one of the older stars on the Men's tour. Another one of those weeks where the 20 somethings again had to sit in the back seat. Dang...
-Speaking of older stars: Tiger Woods slipped out of the top ten in the world rankings for the first time since forever. More and more it looks like the Tiger era has passed. Too bad - it was a lot of fun while it lasted.
-Several teams came out and registered for the Community League and then went out and played the first of two preseason scrambles over the weekend. We do have a winner of that scramble: Short and Shirley Jeffers who came out last night after dinner and whizzed around the course, posting a 35 gross and a net 27.67. This week's winner? Btw, my partner for the Community League, Larry Wininger, is not going to be around this week so if your partner is also indisposed, I'ld be happy to team up with you in the second preseason scramble.
-Had some Tuesday Men and Thursday Match Play golfers also out over the weekend getting in their scramble as part of the May Challenge. Jack Lents and I did just that late Saturday afternoon, firing a 34 and leaving two strokes on the table along the way (missed a couple of short putts - always hate to do that).
-Working on my golf game. Glad to report it is coming around. Lots of time practicing putting, chipping and approach shots. On the approach shots, have recalibrated my wedge distances. You remember I buy into the Pelz approach to the short game, using quarter, half and three quarter swings to dial in on different yardages. Committing to a particular swing has also made a difference. One other thing: Finding I need more time to limber up. No longer am I able to leave the clubhouse and drop right into a well oiled swing. At least that's the case for now.
-Time to get out of here. Golf course, Donut Barn, Bloomington. Stuff to do. Places to go. People to see. Photos to take.
