Jack Butcher and Rex Hudson took on Virgil Harper and Gary LaMar in Thursday's Match Play League, shot a three under net 67 and won the match, 10.5 points to 3.5 points. The victory propelled them to a one stroke victory in the 36 Team Handicapped Tournament and into first place in the standings for the regular season. In the tournament, they slipped by last week's leaders, Vic Wallace and Phil Roberts, who had a disappointing net 75 on the day, to tumble to fourth place. Jack Lents and Mike Bird, with a net 63, fell one shot shy of the winning score to take second place and also beat up on their match play opponents, Pam Byron and Patty Bowling, 11.5 to 2.5. The day's low scores belonged to JD Faris and Kenny Hudson with a super net team 59, sparked by JD's low net individual score of 26. Junior Byron again came in with the low gross score, a 37. Hole prizes were won by Kenny Hudson at #7, John Chapman at #8 and Dick Barber at #9. Jack Butcher also took over the #1 spot in the individual standings, passing Patty Bowling who fell to second. Junior Byron and John Chapman are tied for third while Frank Fee is in fifth position after six events.
