Stan Hodges, Larry Hembree, Gabby Love and Shirley Jeffers used birdies at holes eight and nine to get to five under and then another birdie at the first extra hole, number nine, in overtime to win the Saturday Morning Scramble at Lakeview yesterday. Also going after the triumph and coming in at five under were the teams of Dave Wininger, Paul Hart and Matt Burch along with Wayne Souerdike, Tyler Walton and Joe Allen. Missing out on the extra play was the team of Mike Bird, Spenser Souerdike and George Templin who finished at minus three.
Of note:
-Both Stan Hodges and Shirley Jeffers were making their initial appearances of the year in the Saturday scramble and immediately jumped into the winners' circle.
-Larry Hembree stuck his tee shot on the extra hole to three feet of the pin where the team used four putts to sink the winning birdie, Stan's finally dropping into the cup.
-Wayne Souerdike's team had the only eagle of the day, one at #4.
-The par threes yielded only three birdies during the match, two by the winners at #9, one by the Wininger team at #7. The par fives, on the other hand, averaged 3.875 on the day with seven birdies and the one eagle. The par fours yielded five birds and three pars. Only one bogey during the match, that by the winning team at hole #7.
