Just good golf: Wininger, Potts, Arvin and Trambaugh Triumph
In the Saturday morning modified scramble, the team of Dave Wininger, Greg Potts, Mike Arvin and Bryant Trambaugh had an almost perfectly steady round of golf. With birdies on every scramble hole except eight, and there a par, and two pars on two of the three short holes, the team's only falter was on three where they came in with a bogey. The teams of Doug Denson, Wayne Souerdike, Kevin Byron and Joe Doyle shared second place with the team of Mike Bird, Larry Hembree and Curt Johnson, each at one under. On the sixth hole, Denson's drive, Souerdike's approach and Byron's putt produced the only eagle of the day. On holes four, five and six, clutch putting by both Larry Hembree and Curt Johnson produced birdies for the Bird team. Stumbles, or the lack thereof, on the par threes where golfers played their own balls, again were decisive.
