Tribune article for the week

Lakeview Golf Course Tribune article for the week of June 30:

Lakeview Golf Course News

Tracy Rayhill gets his first par round

Local golfer Tracy Rayhill had his very first par round on Friday, June 27th. He carded a 35 which included three birdies and a couple of putts that got hung up on the lip. As he said, "It could have been better."

Just good golf: Wininger, Potts, Arvin and Trambaugh Triumph

In the Saturday morning modified scramble, the team of Dave Wininger, Greg Potts, Mike Arvin and Bryant Trambaugh had an almost perfectly steady round of golf. With birdies on every scramble hole except eight, and there a par, and two pars on two of the three short holes, the team's only falter was on three where they came in with a bogey. The teams of Doug Denson, Wayne Souerdike, Kevin Byron and Joe Doyle shared second place with the team of Mike Bird, Larry Hembree and Curt Johnson, each at one under. On the sixth hole, Denson's drive, Souerdike's approach and Byron's putt produced the only eagle of the day. On holes four, five and six, clutch putting by both Larry Hembree and Curt Johnson produced birdies for the Bird team. Stumbles, or the lack thereof, on the par threes where golfers played their own balls, again were decisive.

Community League Results Event 5

Net round of the week was a tie at seven under by both Missy Kneip and Scott Schutte. Low net team was the very low score of 59 by Scott and his partner, Mike Arvin. Three teams tied for second with 66's: Cam Sheetz and Missy Kneip, Wilma Bateman and Patty Bowling (Jim Bateman did well as her sub, shot a net 33), and Paul and Jim Hart. Birdies were claimed by Mike Arvin and Mike Bird at #5, and Tyler Walton and Karry Stoll at #8. Leaders at the end of the week were Missy Kneip and Cam Sheetz in Team play with 118 points; Kent Summers and Noah Callahan are in second with 114 points. In Individual competition, Missy Kneip remains at the top with 268 points; Mike Arvin with 241 points is second and Jim Hart with 221 points is in third place. Group average gross score for the week was 48.35, down from 44.30 of the previous week.

Senior League Results Event 11

Low net round of the day was posted by Allen Swayze and Pam Byron; each shot seven under in their rounds. Allen was also part of the low net team score of the day; he and Charlie Sheetz came in at 63. Second low team scores were posted by Jack Lents and Jim Bateman along with Ken Hudson and Carroll Rayhill at 64. A note: super sub Morris Cornelius has been filling in superbly for Carroll Rayhill these last several weeks; Morris shot a 43 today, a nifty net 30. Albert Kavanaugh got himself two birdies and two hole prizes to go along with the low gross of the day, a 38. His playing partner Mike Anderson, along with Jack Lents, shot 39's. Claiming the other two hole prizes were Dave Brown on #7 and Don Lannan on #8. Other birdie finders were Dave Brown and Bob Elliott on #7, Mike Anderson on #8, and Dale DeLong and Kenny Hudson on #9. Richard Swayze had a superior outing, shooting a gross 40 and a net 30, a feat which got him back into first place in the Individual standings with 384 points. His play also helped keep the Swayze and Bird team in first place in the Team standings with a total of 101 points. Jack Lents and Jim Bateman are eleven points back for second place while the team of Dave Strange and Clyde Wake are in third sixteen points back. Al Kavanaugh (363), Jack Lents (350), Dale DeLong (349) and Junior Byron (346) round out the top five in Individual play. Average gross for the group was 46.70, down a half a stroke from last week.

Tuesday Men Results Event 11

New leaders in the Team competition: Terry Padgett and Gary Burris wrested the top position from Larry Sutton and Brent Courter with the capable help of super sub Kyle Jones; Terry and Kyle each shot 38's for a team net score of 63. In Individual competition, Noah Callahan remains on top with 803 points with James Hager nipping at his heels with 787 points. James had the low gross of the day, coming in with a brilliant 32 which included four birdies and the wish that he could par #5 every now and then (he does, but not this week). Terry Butcher and Todd Baker each shot 34's while Phil Eyler and Mark Jeffers each shot even par at 35. Phil also claimed the hole prize on #7 with a shot that came to rest about two inches behind the stick. Low net score was claimed by Bill Carrico with a super 25 on his best ever round of 38. Richie Green also had his best ever round, a 46, and came in with a net 26. The Carrico/Parsons team got the low net round of the day with a 58; Trenton Kidwell and Chris Bledsoe came in second with a 61 with Chris also posting his best ever score, a 37. Other hole prizes were claimed by Curt Johnson on #3, Junior Byron on #8, and Mark Jones on #9. Of note: Two thirds of the players came in with a net par or better. Group average was 42.90, down from 43.44.

Annika's last shot and the trophy to a 19 year old

Well, we hope it's not her last shot at a US Open, but at least for a while. And it was a beauty. Was at the clubhouse watching the ladies play when Annika dropped her 199 yard third shot into the hole for an unforgettable eagle. Electrifying, to say the least. Inbee Park won and became the youngest player ever to win - 19 years old. She played awfully well today.

Tracy Rayhill gets his first par round

Just learned that Tracy had his very first par round yesterday, a 35 with three birdies and a couple of putts that got hung up on the lip. As he said, "It could have been better." Still, quite a moment for any golfer. Congrats, Tracy.

Senior Leaguers...

Come on out and have some fun. A little warm today and possibility of storms later this afternoon. Bugs just a minor nuisance now. Expect some good scores with players' games improving and the great course conditions.

Curt Johnson sinks a putt

Curt rolling in the birdie putt on #9 that made up for the missed opportunity at #3.

Tuesday Men Event 11 Results

The results are posted. Comments:

James Hager comes in saying he would like to make a par on #5 for once, then produced his scorecard with a brilliant 32. Btw, his best has been a 29 where he popped in a 110 yard shot on #1 for an eagle and then did the same thing on #2. Back when he was a young man. Talking about bugs, Larry Sutton has stories about the black flies in Canada in late August that sounds like a little bit of hell; makes the little guys here seem like something just this side of paradise in comparison. Chris Bledsoe gets his first par on #1 this year then follows that by driving #2, misses a few putts along the way and ends up with a sterling 37 gross and a net score of 28; playing partner Trenton Kidwell takes a triple bogey on the first hole but then shoots two under the rest of the way and that included birdies at two, five and eight. Phil Eyler birdies holes four and seven and comes in with an even par round after bogeys at three and eight. Doug Denson and Steven Downey had really good rounds going through seven holes but finished with bogeys on eight and double bogeys on nine. Richie Green gets his first birdie at #9 and his best score ever at 46 gross and a super net 26. Playing partners Terry Butcher and Joe Doyle had good nights as well coming in with a 34 and a 47 and a team net score of 63. Terry Padgett and super sub Kyle Jones team up to shoot a pair of 38’s and very nice team net score of 63. Bill Carrico also has his best ever round, firing a 38 which included a shot into the water at #6. Says he took his time; made some putts, too. Todd Baker brought along his girl friend which turned out to be a very wise move; he shot a one under 34 gross and a nifty net of 27. Short Jeffers fired a two under on the final six holes to get back to a par 35. At the fifth hole, Jason Rominger hit three out of bounds and took a quadruple eight; Lady Luck gave him a chance to get two of them back on #6 with a tree glancing second shot that ended up six feet below the pin. He settled for a return of one shot and ended up with a 38. Curt Johnson got the hole prize on #3 but missed the four foot birdie putt; he made up for it by rolling in a twelve footer at #9 for a closing birdie. Two thirds of the players came in with a net par or better. Group average was 42.90.

Ward Smith and an uphill lie

Caught Ward in a difficult position and told him that I already had a title for this picture: Ward Smith holes out from 120 yards. Well, we all know that that is exactly what he intended.

Tarry Bratton and his swing

Tarry is looking for a good swing off of the tee box. Here he is blasting off at Lakeview's #1. Any suggestions?

Joe Gray is back at golfing...

Joe Gray got himself rear ended earlier this year and has been out of golfing commission. but yesterday he made his return to Lakeview and brought his sweetie and great grandson with him. Good to have you back, Joe.

Tuesday Men - come on down...

A little history: Five years ago today, the top five in Individual competition were Junior Byron, Wayne souerdike, Greg Potts, Tyler Walton and John Drake. In Team play, Junior Byron and John Drake were on top with Short Jeffers and Don Mills in secon place. (Btw, where is Don Mills?) Short shot a 33, Shannon Bratton a 35, Greg Potts and John Walker, 36's. At the other end, Mark Jones shot a 51 (he doesn't do 50's anymore...) and Cam Carrico a 59. Somewhere in the middle were a couple of Joes, Allen and Doyle, with 47's. The day was sunny and hot with a high of 91. No bugs.

And today: Bugs are still around and a minor problem; temperatures are lovely; course is in great shape. Should be a super day for golf. How about a bunch of birdies, several eagles, and even an ace or two to make it an historic day. Okay, will settle for four or five sub par rounds and nobody over 50. That's well within the realm of possibility and not too far from the kingdom of probable. Right? Come show me how good you are.

Tribune article for the week

Tribune article for the week of June 23rd:

Lakeview Golf Course News

Mike Bird gets Ace at Lakeview's Number Nine

On Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Lakeview Golf Course, Mike Bird used his Ping Eye2 five iron from a hundred and forty yards out at #9 tee box to strike golfers' gold for the second time. His tee shot looked very good from the start but it disappeared into the morning sun's glare and left Mike and his playing partners, Wayne Souerdike and Kevin Byron, wondering where the ball went. When they were halfway down to the hole, the golfers could see the ball mark, about a foot short and a foot left of the pin, but no ball either near or far. Kevin Byron was the first one to the hole and pulled the pin and the ball out of the hole, revealing that it indeed was a hole-in-one. That makes it two aces for Mike, the other one also a 'blind' shot into the afternoon sun of an October day back in 1999. That one fell into the hole across the way at #3. Mike's golf ball was a Maxfli Noodle Long and Soft.

Saturday Manager's Scramble

Bird gets an Ace but Kidwell, Allen and Johnson take the trophy

Mike Bird got the shot of the day in the Saturday Manager's Scramble but that wasn't quite enough to propel his team to victory. Mike Kidwell, Joe Allen and Curt Johnson covered the course in a measly one under par and that was just enough to beat the contenders. Mike Bird, Wayne Souerdike and Kevin Byron came in at even par as did the team of Junior Byron, Larry Hembree and Joe Doyle. The modified scramble saw the golfers complete the always tough par threes in a combined five over; the normally compliant par fives returned only one birdie; and the usually not so easy number five was birdied by each of the teams.

Leagues:

Community League Results Event 4

Kay Sheetz and Kim Jones found birdies on #7 and # 9 on their way to rounds of 47 and 46, each of them firing two under in their net rounds. Brian Mullen also found a birdie on #7, his first of the season and got his low round as well, a 51 gross and a 33 net. Joe Potts remains Mr. Consistency with a round of 40 which included a birdie on #2. Noah Callahan and Patty Bowling fired net rounds of five under, that would be a nifty 40 for Noah, and an equally nifty 50 for Patty. Low net round of the week was turned in by Scott Schutte who fired a gross round of 42, a net 28, and picked up a birdie on #8 to ice his cake. Two thirds of the players turned in rounds of net par or better. League leaders through the fourth week of the season are: in Team competition, Cam Sheetz and Missy Kniep share the top spot with Kent Summers and Noah Callahan at 92 points; the Waltons, Bob and Tyler, are in third place with 87 points. In Individual competition, Missy Kniep remains at the top with 210 points; Mike Arvin and Jim Hart share second place with 187 points; and Noah Callahan is in fourth place with 177 points.

Senior League Results Event 10

All the seniors showed up and all of them stuck around to finish their rounds in spite of the nasty efforts of the little bugs who have been visiting the area this past week. Highlights and comments: Junior Byron chipped one in on #4 for his first eagle of the year; partner Pam Byron also did well with a par five on the hole and finished with a gross 45 and a stupendous net 22. Wow! Jack Butcher had the most pars with five; Mike Bird the most birdies with two; and Junior Byron had the lone eagle of the day. Vic Wallace and Dale DeLong had superior rounds of 46 and 47 and a team net of 58, second to the sterling 54 team score of Junior and Pam Byron. Vic and Dale think maybe the bugs had something to do with their improved play but we decided that the bugs were not welcome to stick around. The average gross score continued to go down with a group average of 47.23, about three quarters of a stroke better than last week. Twenty-four of the thirty-one players came in with a net par or better. Hole prizes were claimed by super sub Tom McAtee on #3, Sam Potts on #7, Kenny Hudson on #8 and Mike Anderson on #9. Leaders at the end of the day: Mike Bird and Richard Swayze lead Jack Lents and Jim Bateman by eleven points in Team competition; Mike Anderson and Albert Kavanaugh are thirteen and a half back. In Individual competition, Junior Byron climbed to the top with 336 points though closely followed by Richard Swayze at 335 points; Albert Kavanaugh at 327 and Virgil Harper at 319 are in third and fourth place. Of note: Charlie Sheetz and Allen Swayze saved their best for their ninth hole of the day, each of them getting pars at #2; Allen's was his very first par of the year. It was suggested that they might want to show up a little earlier next week to play a few practice holes, like maybe eight. They both grunted something in reply, like "Oh yea, that's a great idea!"

Tuesday Men Highlights

The little buggies are everywhere and very interested in resting for a while on one's neck or arm or cheek or eye. Nasty nits. Greg Potts, back from a week off because of storm damage, fired a 38 and a net 31 with a birdie on #7. Phil Eyler had seven pars and a birdie at four in a round of 35 and a net 32. Dave Strange opened with a triple bogey but then settled down and came in with a nifty 42 gross and a net 33. Buck Holland opened with a par and finished up with a 45 and a net 32. Joe Doyle finished with a par on #9, a 46 gross and a super net of 30. George Templin chipped one in on #4 which he said was better than Tiger's on #17 at the Open. He fired a 40 with a net 32. Playing partners Jim Murphy and Rob Sterling also had good rounds, shooting a net 32 and a net 33. Junior Byron almost had a perfect par round; a short pitch on #8 landed short of the green resulting in a chip and two putt for his only mistake. The 36 gross still gave him a very nifty net round of 30. Eddie Green misses a two foot birdie putt on #8 but still comes in with a 39, his best round ever; that would be a net 31 for him. Josh Huff rolled in an eighteen foot putt just off the green at #9 to complete a round of 43 with a net of 31. His team partner, Mark Sherer played earlier in the day and did well with a 38 and a net 34. Noah Callahan ran one in for a birdie from off the green on #6 and completed a round that started three over and ended up 40 gross and a net 32; a super recovery. Dan Steiner, last golfer in, fired a very nice 43 and an even nicer net 30. The wrap up: Hole prizes to Jack Divine (he was handing out autographs to anyone interested at #5 green), Greg Potts, George Templin and Phil Eyler. Low gross rounds to Phil Eyler with a 35 and Junior Byron with a 36. Low net team score was turned in by Mike Albertson and Mark Jones, a super 63. Larry Sutton and Brent Courter remain on top of the Team standings with 410 points;Terry Padgett and Gary Burris are in second at 406 points. Noah Callahan scooted into first in the Individual standings and has 774 points; Eddie Green climbed into second with a point total of 730; Jim Murphy and Dave Wininger follow with 715 and 690 points.

Sunday Play at Lakeview Photos

A twenty something foursome takes aim down #4 fairway. And yes, one did fly over my head; and yes I did think of Robert Redford in The Natural smashing a foul ball up at a reporter sitting in the stands down the third base line, intentionally.

Two thirds of the players turned in rounds of net par or better. Goose Crossing and Late Golfers

After the storm last night, a few golfers came out and enjoyed the cool. The geese were already there. BTW, have you noticed the large number of adult geese without goslings this summer? Wayne Souerdike and I were noting that yesterday and we wondered if that was the result of the Parks aggressive tampering with the nesting habits of these unwanted geese.

Mike Bird gets Ace at Number Nine

Using his Ping Eye2 five iron from a hundred and forty yards up on the dam, Mike Bird's tee shot from #9 tee box at Lakeview Golf Course looked very good from the start. But it disappeared into the morning sun's glare and left Mike and his playing partners, Wayne Souerdike and Kevin Byron, wondering where the ball went. Halfway down to the hole, the golfers could see the ball mark, about a foot short and a foot left of the pin, but no ball either near or far. Mike's golf ball was a Maxfli Noodle Long and Soft.

Note: I registered the Ace here.

Bird gets an Ace but Kidwell, Allen and Johnson take the trophy

Mike Bird got his second life time hole-in-one at the 9th hole in the Saturday Manager's Scramble but that wasn't quite enough to propel his team to victory. Saturday Manager's Scramble at 9am...

...tomorrow. The bugs are still present though they do seem to have lessened in intensity. And for me, the vanilla extract that Brent Dalrymple suggested, worked like a magic potion when I was out on the course earlier this evening.

An English man in Loogootee

Todd Arvin, who moved to English, Indiana, a few years ago, used to be a mainstay out here on Tuesday nights. He was doing a little warming up in preparation for the Knox County Open up at Bicknell this weekend.

Bug Problem Solutions

Brent Dalrymple came out and played golf today and was not bothered by the bugs at all. His solution: vanilla extract. He let me use some of his solution and it worked for me as well. Hurray! Tim Dant says absorbine junior also works, or he heard it works.

Golfing trio

April, Kyla and Kim enjoying their time out at the golf course.

Another beginner, this one named Dylan

Dylan Eisenhut was out yesterday to take a lesson. And yes he is also a baseball player - note how he loads up on his backswing. Notice anything else?

Taking up golf at an early age

Kyla was out early today for a lesson. For a ten year old beginning student of the game, I would say that she is going to do very well with this sport.

VFW Scramble is a No Go

Update: A little misunderstanding earlier today about the VFW Scramble. There is not going to be one this Saturday; maybe later in the year. What we will have is the Manager's Saturday Morning Scramble, this week a nine hole affair starting at 9am.

VFW Scramble this Saturday

The VFW post here in Loogootee is sponsoring an 18 hole scramble at Lakeview this Saturday morning. Start time is 8 o'clock. Call the clubhouse to get your team signed up.

Senior League Photos

Jim Bateman, Bob Elliott and Jack Lents at #9 teeing area.

Wilma Bateman, covered against the bugs and looking like Little Red Riding Hood, along with Diane Bird scurrying off the course after finishing their nine.

Allen Swayze looking very pleased with himself after getting his first par of the year.

Morris Cornelius, Kenny Hudson and Tom McAtee at #2 tee box. Kenny was using Avon Skin So Soft to ward off the bugs and said it worked very well. (Note to self: call the Avon lady.)

Al Kavanaugh, Mike Anderson, Clyde Wake and Dave Strange on #9 green. Note the patient group up on the teeing area.

Charlie Sheetz used a head cover and a resolute look to deter the little nasties; Allen Swayze used the old shoo fly hand wave method. The two are seen in #5 fairway.

All the seniors came out to play and all of them stayed to the biting end. Perseverance matched only by that of Tiger's at the US Open. Congrats, guys and gals of the Fifty-Plus League - you continue to amaze.

Senior League Results Event 10

The results are posted. All the seniors showed up and all of them stuck around to finish their rounds. So, I think the bugs have met their match. Highlights and comments:

Junior Byron chipped one in on #4 for his first eagle of the year; partner Pam Byron also did well with a par five on the hole and finishes with a gross 45 and a stupendous net 22. Vic and Dale think maybe the bugs had something to do with their improved play but we decided that they were not welcome to stick around. In spite of the presence of the bugs, the average gross score continued to go down with a group average of 47.23, just about three quarters of a stroke better than last week. Of note: Charlie Sheetz and Allen Swayze saved their best for their ninth hole of the day, each of them getting pars at #2; Allen’s was his very first par of the year. It was suggested that they might want to show up a little earlier next week to play a few practice holes, like maybe eight. They both grunted something in reply, like "Oh yea, that's a great idea!"

Seniors have an option

The bugs are still with us so we are going to adapt. Senior League players have the option of going ahead and playing their rounds today - with their scheduled opponents, or to find another time during the next week to come out and get it in, again, with their scheduled opponents. I am assuming that the bugs will go away here in a day or two. Go here to see who your scheduled opponent is and make arrangements if you want to avoid the little nasties - the biting bugs. Golfing can be done - we had several Community League players out yesterday, and others as well, but it is not pleasant since one is constantly beset with the beasties. Several golfers, including Diane and Lucas, started but returned before even getting past hole number one.

Darn...

The bugs - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

The bugs are nasty little critters and they are really getting under my skin. Had to dose myself several times today with bug repellent and still they came at me and got all over me and were being their nasty little selves all day long. We are watching them and if they continue to be the problem they have been these past few days, then we will adapt Senior League play to make the best of a bad situation. We will make a determination in the early morning whether to play or not. If not, I expect that opposing teams will have the option of playing immediately or anytime through the following Thursday's event. And there I am assuming that the bug thingee is something that will disappear in a day or two. Can't imagine them wanting to stay around much longer than that - they certainly are not welcome to stay. So, stay turned.

If you want to play, wear appropriate clothes, like cover yourself entirely and wear a bee bonnet to cover the rest of you. Okay - hope they are all leaving the area as we speak.

Tiger

Now we know Tiger has a stubborn streak that's pretty wide. He knew he was injured and that it was only going to get worse with his playing in the Open. Pretty stupid, right? The amazing thing is that he went out and won the thing on a gimpy leg. Ninety-one holes. Amazing feat though in ten years or so he may look back on his decision and say that it really wasn't a very wise thing to do. Hope he fully recovers in the wink of an eye. I'll miss him, for however long he's laid up.

Bugs, bugs, and more bugs...

The bugs are still pretty thick out at the golf course. There is bug spray outside of the clubhouse. I would also recommend long sleeve shirts and long legged trousers (?) and one of those desert hats with the flap that goes down over the neck. Sun is nice and the temperatures are moderate.

Tuesday Men Highlights

From my notes as golfers finished their rounds:

The little buggies are everywhere and very interested in resting for a while on one’s neck or arm or cheek or eye. Nasty nits. Greg Potts, back from a week off because of storm damage, fires a 38 and a net 31 with a birdie on #7. Phil Eyler has seven pars and a birdie at four in a round of 35 and a net 32. Dave Strange opened with a triple bogey but then settled down and came in with a 42 gross and a net 33. Buck Holland opened with a par and finished up with a 45 and a net 32. Joe Doyle finished with a par on #9, a 46 gross and a super net of 30. George Templin chipped one in on #4 which he said was better than Tiger’s on #17 a few days ago. He fired a 40 with a net 32. Playing partners Jim Murphy and Rob Sterling also had good rounds, shooting a net 32 and a net 33. Junior Byron almost had a perfect par round; a short pitch on #8 landed short of the green resulting in a chip and two putt for bogey. The 36 gross still gave him a very nifty net round of 30. Eddie Green misses a two foot birdie putt on #8 but still comes in with a 39, his best round ever; that would be a net 31. Josh Huff rolled in an eighteen foot putt just off the green at #9 to complete a round of 43 with a net of 31. His team partner, Mark Sherer played earlier in the day and did well with a 38 and a net 34. Noah Callahan ran one in for a birdie from off the green on #6 and completes a round that started three over and ended up 40 gross and a net 32. Dan Steiner, last golfer in, fires a very nice 43 and an even nicer net 30.

Larry Sutton and Brent Courter remain on top of the Team standings with Terry Padgett and Gary Burris in second. Noah Callahan scooted into first and Eddie Green climbed into second in the Individual standings.

Buggy day at the golf course

The bugs are out in force all over southern Indiana. And they are thick and nasty out at Lakeview. Cover up and use bug repellent. They are no fun...

Photo: Fathers and Daughters at #1 Teeing Area

Late golfers yesterday: dads and their daughters although the girls didn't do much golfing. Maybe in a year or two.

Kay and Kim trading birdies, Shirley telling stories, Noah shooting a 40

Was walking around the golf course late yesterday afternoon and as I passed #7 green, Kim Jones told me Kay had just got herself a birdie and she got herself a par even. That's noteworthy. Continued on my walk (removing tee blocks for mowing the teeing areas and getting a bit of exercise at the same time) and by the time I got up to #9 again - the service building, Kim and Kay were putting down on #9 and I watched Kim roll in a beauty from just off the green about twenty-five feet all told. That would be a birdie and a round of 46; Kay finished with a bogey and a round of 47. Good ones for the dynamic duo. Diane Bird and Shirley Jeffers were also out there yesterday faring not so well possibly because Shirley had all these stories to tell of her trip (with Short) out to San Diego and the US Open. Tom Taylor, Richard Swayze and Noah Callahan also did Community League rounds, Noah coming in with a 40 as he continues his march to thirty something rounds.

Tuesday Boyz Club comes to Lakeview this morning. Eighteen hole scramble starting at 9 am. I'll be there.

Tuesday Men: Time to Shine

It's going to be a lovely day - actually, already is with a get up and greet the day temperature of 55 degrees. Nice. Unexpected. Take advantage of it and play two! (Ernie Banks, remember?)

A little history lesson: Ten years ago in Tuesday League, Lloyd Mosby was partnered with Eugene Wilcoxen - Lloyd shot a 49 and Eugene a 45. Other playing combinations included Ed David and Paul Truelove, Jack Cook and Mark Taylor, Ken Wagler with Clint Knepp, Randy Wagler with Nelson Stoll, Jerry Tredway and Roger Cole.

Back to the present: Only five eagles so far this season in the Tuesday Men's League - Ackerman, Muessig, Ryan Johnson, Hager and Mike Kidwell. Should increase with the warmer and drier conditions and as players finally round into mid season form. Still only one hole-in-one at Lakeview and not from a Tuesday Man - Jack Butcher got his first way back on April 24th; somebody told me that Country Oaks is having a rash of aces this year. I would say it's about time we got ourselves one or two more. Any volunteers?

Bring your A game on out later today and have a little fun to lighten your week. Let Tiger's all-over-the-place style of play these last five days be an inspiration to any one of us who goes out there and thrashes around trying to get the ball to go in the direction we want it to. BTW, here's a good article describing some of the things, like pain, that we didn't see or know about.

Tiger wins!

My oh my. Greatest ever? He endured and found a way to win. Amazing.

Tiger on the back nine at Torrey Pines last night. Wow. I thought of Michael with the flu. A superb display of guts, perseverance, and skill. Simply fantastic. Pat Forde sums it up pretty good at espn.com.

Lucas and Dedicated Golfers, Patty and Tiger

Lucas listening to tunes and cutting the surrounds.

Dedicated golfers: they really didn't want to break from the midday rains but eventually did and went over to Stoll's for dinner. Eric, Lucas, Diane and I did as well.

Of note:

Patty Bowling came out for the first rains, then came back for the second rains as well. She did get her Community League round in, playing with Wilma Bateman, and even found a birdie over at #3.

-Tiger Woods' round of 30 yesterday reminded me of the time he opened the Masters with a forty then shot a 30 on the back nine. Does he have Torrey Pines figured out?
