Bits and Pieces

-Good crowd at the golf course yesterday taking advantage of the nicer weather.  Did get to finish my day with nine holes with Tracy Rayhill and Tony Trambaugh.  Some solid hits but for the most part, a pretty good display of early season golf.

-BYU key player, Brandon Davies, booted from team for rules violation - having sex with his girlfriend.  How archaic.  Pat Forde at espn.com:
Would I have wanted to attend college at a place that has rules governing just about every aspect of your daily life, including how you dress and whether you've shaved that morning? No, thank you. In my youth I was not sober enough, chaste enough, conformist enough, dogmatic enough or decaffeinated enough to have been a very good student at BYU.
Count me in that same group of  the 'no thank you, I think I'll go somewhere else' bunch.  Come to think of it, Notre Dame, back in the '50's and early '60's, would have been considered somewhat archaic as well: lights out at ten, daily Mass for those living on campus.  But that was before all the liberation movements of the 1960's that pretty much turned our society upside down.  One last thing: Now we know that the rest of the BYU players are celibates, right?  Yeah, right...  (Guess it depends on what the definition of sex is.)

-Did you note Emily Montgomery of the Vincennes Rivet girls basketball team walking around on crutches at the boys sectional last Tuesday night?  That would be two of the starters out with injuries for Saturday's state title game against Turkey Run.  Maybe it's not as serious as it looks.  And the other girl, Erin Wehrheim, might be able to play some.  The team does have a deep bench - one, two or three of the other girls will have to step up.  It will probably be five of them that step up.

-In big boy golf:  Jack Nicklaus, the 70 something reigning best golfer in history, says Tiger will beat his major record of 18 titles.  At the same time, Rory McIlroy, a youngster of 21, pretty much says Tiger is all washed up.  Fun stuff keeping TW in the news.

-Heading out to the golf course to open up.  More sun and temperatures in the high 50's today.  That's golf weather - grab your sticks and come on out.
